eBay Sys with HTG Lights noob

This will be my first hydro grow for personal use only. Thinking about four plants because I think this would be too tight for the six.

I would really like to know what you guys thought about this system and if I would need anything else.
Thanks a lot.

This system looks about like what I've seen for DIY here... already done. Granted it's off ebay but the price looks good (includes shipping) and it looks to have basically everything I need.

Hey, OP! That's a generic bubbleponics dwc set up, minus the water pump and drip lines (which are pretty unnecessary imo). I out of these for my first 2 years, and starting buying my own totes from the same maker they use and making my own. If you're growing single cola, small plants you can do 4-6 in there, but if you are topping to grow 'em bushy, I'd suggest only going with 2 plants on either end. They'll take up more than the space of the tote before you know it. HTG's service rocks, and I have the same light over my moms. Tony and Perry in shipping will take back ANYTHING if you don't like it, and they'll send you free UPS labels to ship shit back. Of course, I've spent a couple thousand there so they like me ;) Good luck!

I guess you mean for two you would have one on each end or did you mean two on each end for a total of four? If only one on each for a total of two what would you think of one in the middle and one on each end for a total of three?

Thanks

It depends on how you're going to grow them: are you going to grow relatively short plants with a single cola, or are you going to grow larger plants (3 feet +) with multiple colas? If the latter, you only want to do 2 plants. MJ plants get bigger and bushier than you think they will. That kit is really a starter kit to veg your plants and then you would transplant to a larger system. If you're going to flower in them, only do couple plants. I've done many grows in this system, and that was my experience. Also, if you go dwc as this system is, read Heisenberg's thread, it really makes all the difference -

Thanks so much for your help. Here's a better view of my situation.

I know I've got a lot to learn and I'm more than willing.
My problems are I don't have a basement and so must use a limited space (second bathroom shower stall). 42"x 34" by 6/2 ft. tall. Plus I'm on a somewhat fixed income. I need to keep this initial setup around $400-$500.
I realize the height could present a problem so plants will not be over 3 ft. tall. In the past I've always pruned the top to keep height down. I know you guys frown on that so I'm looking into what is said here on pruning and SCROG but SCROG might be more complicated for a first time. (comments welcome)
I've grown fairly nice bud outside in a secluded area in potted dirt but that is risky so I can only do a little one or two plants and of course only once a year.
I used seeds from street source and am amazed (shocked) at the cost of the high quality seeds although I'm sure they produce amazing results. The cost and risk of ordering will force me to use street seeds again. At least until I'm more confident.

I'm reading as much as I can and have not committed to anything yet although I'm real anxious to get started. I know if I take time now to learn my investment and results will gain.

I'm not married to the system above although I will probably get that light setup. So any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Hopefully as turn-key as possible.

Don't know why that posted twice. Tried to delete but wouldn't.

Been thinking maybe I'll just go with four pots and soil. Could get four large pots in there easily.

Onward through the fog...

Things like that happen occasionally, just hit the edit button, delete the text and then write "DISREGARD POST" and then save. Good luck with the grow and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Now I'm looking into maybe three bubble boy singles. I think that may end up being my best bet. Still reading...

What do you think?

Ive seen some excellent results from Bubble Boys (& DWC/RDWC in general), however SCOTTYBALLS and my go to guy at the hydro shop and has me sold on GH Waterfarm's: (-->CLICK HERE<--) Check out what SCOTTY produced in one with a 400W CMH: (310 Grams Dry, Thread is 919 pages long so Yield & Bud Porn: Post #218 & #261) (-->CLICK HERE<--)

That's freakin' amazing! I'm not even sure how he did that. Did he use some sort of SCROG method or did he prune to make the plant produce so many colas?
Here's another convincing thread... Did he do something like this? Is that what is meant by SCROG and if I search here will I be able to find out how to do that or can you direct me to a how-to?

I'm thinking I'll order two of these. HTG carries them. They are twice as much as a Bubble Boy but look like they are worth it.

Thanks a million, I just can't believe how beautiful that girl was in just one Waterfarm. I don't expect to do that but to even come close would be a huge success.

Do you know of an easier method than the one posted here to create a microbe solution and is it almost certain I will need to?

Seems like there should be an easier method (premix or something?)

Yes the grow you linked to is the same method SCOTTY used, SCROG (Screen Of Green, which is essentially growing/training each cola through its own hole/square of a screen, supporting each cola and maximizing yield), however instead of HPS SCOTTY used a CMH (Ceramic Metal Halide) lamp which produces the best spectrum for plant growth over any other HID lamp, I'm not kidding these lamps are the shit, they have more blue than MH & more red than HPS, one bulb works perfect for both Veg and Flower and not to mention they produce more UV than any other HID lamp, when it comes to growing with HID's you simply cannot beat CMH, check out the spectrum of the Philips MasterColor CMH Retro White (one of if not the best grow lamp on the market) compared to a standard HPS:

Here's the cheapest place I've found on these awesome lamps: (-->CLICK HERE<--)

Now as for your microb solution there are MANY was to go about that, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of microbe/microbe beneficial products to choose from, I recommend finding a good hydro shop near you with polite, respectful and KNOWLEDGEABLE employees, let them know what you want to do and if there anything like my hydro shop they'll take care of you no prob, I learned a lot from my go to guy at GreenFire Hydro. Personally what I've been doing for microbes in is using Earth Juice Microblast, Earth Juice Bio Zeus, Mykos mycrorhiza, Sea Kelp extract & Earth Juice Soy-Ful, I use a few other products in my solutions like Sugar Peak Veg, Earth Juice Catalyst, Rich Humic Acid etc. but the main microbe enhancing elements were listed first. So far this mix has been working fantastic on my jalapeno plant in a Aerogarden Space Saver 6, when I get some rechargeable batteries for my camera I'll post some pics, I know its not MJ but its still a beautiful plant and peppers ROCK!! Chop some of those puppies up with a little green onion, garlic, cilantro, salt & black pepper, put in a skillet with some pre-cooked chicken or 5-min before the chicken is done (otherwise you'll burn the jalapenos, garlic & green onions) and simmer over medium heat with some olive oil, when its done use it to make a casadia or burrito with your favorite cheese & rice, I like wild rice, Monterrey jack (normally I'd use pepper jack but not needed with the jalapenos), cheddar & provolone, YUMMMM YUMMM YUMMMMMMMM!!!!

I love jalapenos too. Always on hand around here. I cook a lot of mex, and you'd be hard pressed to find any chili con queso better than mine anywhere. The only thing you should season it with is jalapeno. Jalapenos in my cheese, in my meat and couldn't eat fried chicken without 'em.
Trying to convince my brother to stop with the pickled and use the raw. Sooooo much better.

SCROG does not look that difficult. I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it. I'll read up.

The lamp specs do look awfully impressive and the price not that bad considering the lifespan compared to traditional MH HPS. At least using their ballast. So you're saying this one lamp could be used for veg and flower. That's very cool and according to the spectrum chart I can see why. I wished they offered a complete unit with hood and timer ballast enclosure like HTG but I guess I could put those things together... rather not so I'll research some HTG ballast and compare specs.
I know the dual MH/HPS system from HTG is pretty much plug and play and there is something to be said about that.

Microb mix is still a bit intimidating and as I live in a small town 13,000 there isn't a hydro shop anywhere in sight. I might go to a nursery and see if they sell some related stuff but there's nothing in the yellow pages or search for this area. There are only a few nurseries. I know some people don't treat with microbes at all but I'd hate to ruin a beauty.
