Ebb & Grow resivoir levels for 8 buckets

How much water would have to be in the resivoir to fill a 8 bucket setup? I know it can support 48 buckets but does it take all 55 gallons to do so. Im thinking of buying this system but if i have to mix up 25 gallons every week useing AN that could definatly get pricey. Just seeing if anyone might know.

2 gal pots x 8 = 16 gal plus 2 gal for controller
I would go atl east 20 but twenty five is better imo

sort of,
you have to consider that the hydroton takes up quite a large portion of the 2 gallons in the bucket. The 2 gallons for the controller is a constant. I think you'd be around more like 10-15 gallons.

Otherwise a 55 Gallon drum would never work for 48 2 gallon containers......make sense? If you in fact needed 2 gallons per you would need a 100 gallon res. Hope this helps!

the hydroton displaces atleast 1 gallon, but if you have less than 20 gallons by the time 10 gallons are pumped out the pump will be exposed unless you place the pump facing down, keep in mind that when your plants get large each will drink around 1/2 gallon daily...48 site on this system is a pipe dream unless you dont mind adding 20 gallons a day at maturity

You need the solution to be deep enough that you can put your meters in. With 25 gallons in the reservoir, I can barely reach down to the solution from the top and still have enough light to read my meter.

What I do is let the solution level drop the last three or four days down to 20 - 25 gallons, that way I am throwing away a lot less solution when I change out the res. With 8 plants you will be using about 3-4 gallons per day.

One thing about using more water: The fuller the reservoir the more forgiving it is. A full reservoir has more stable PPM and PH.

I use a Trimeter with probes that are always in the res. so i don't have to worry about reaching the bottom!
