I am starting a SOG and I am using a 4x4 table, I plan to flower in 4" rock wool.
I am used to using Hydroton with my rock wool.
Personally I hate the mess of Hydroton.

Can I just use the Rock wool with nothing under it?

Should I use a coco mat instead of Hydroton?

Yes you can grow with out stuff under them. Dont use hydroton or any thing like that. They make coco mats for that. Ihope you have more plants for sog

I have 32 clones rooting now,
I also moved five 3 gallon containers under the lights till they finish, they are hempy and not easy to balance for me.

I cleaned out the Hydroton, what a mess.
I want to setup a second pump to drain my resevoir and find a sink to hose fitting for refilling.

40 gallons is a whole bunch of buckets to carry.

Thanks for the tip itBUDtime,

I want to try the flood and drain once I have 32 plants under my lights.
I will Cut clones every 3-4 weeks, the group of strains finish flower 55-70 days for all.

I still have a free bean of Jack Herer to add to the mix soon.

I would get rid of the hydroton . You don't need it .
I also would stack the 4" blocks on top of 6" blocks . This is what I do in my tray . The 6" blocks give you plenty of room for roots to grow and you will have the ability to move the plants around as you see fit . You can get some block covers ( squares of Panda film ) to cover the blocks . Will keep from getting algae . Take a quick look at my posts on my signature to see my system .

a cortex sheet over the top with a few holes cut out for the plants stops the light warming up the water too

Also silicone rocks or zeolite rocks can be used instead of clay pebbles there a lot less messy, some fancy people are using coloured glass gems but don`t think I`d use them myself, saying that it`d cause less gunk in the res then clay pebbles do for sure lol

Anyone use saw horses to hold their trays? I saw a pair of adjustable ones on a hydro site. I wanted the fast fit tray stand but I think my cooler I'm using as a res won't fit underneath

I have the fast fit table, it is very sturdy.
I like it because I can tear it down fast, it's less than 2 minutes to assemble.
That said schedule 40 PVC can make a perfect stand.

really isn't a bad thing . Just not good to look at . Makes you feel like something isn't going right . The block covers are cheap and can be reused over and over . Just wash them when you start a new crop . I have been using the same batch of covers for years .
