HALIFAX — An eighth man has been sent to prison for his part in a major drug smuggling operation busted in Nova Scotia in 2008.
Andre Gravelle, 46, of Hamilton pleaded guilty recently in provincial court to charges of conspiracy to import hash oil and conspiracy to possess the drug for the purpose of trafficking.
A judge handed down a sentence of three years and 10 months in addition to the four months Gravelle spent on remand.
RCMP seized 750 kilograms of hash oil that was being unloaded in Guysborough County in the early morning of Sept. 21, 2008.
The drugs had an estimated street value of between $12 million and $21 million.
A dozen men — most of them from the Hamilton area, including three Gravelle brothers and a cousin — were arrested.
Seven other men have pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, receiving sentences ranging from three years to almost seven years, while four men are waiting to be tried
Halifax N.S. is in Canada.
