That's my opinion as well, but I'm unsure of where the OP lives/grows. For all I know, the local authorities may have some agreement with the electrical companies to watch out for significant variations in usage.

I'm one of those rare guys who thinks that LEDs and HID are both great for growing weed, but this situation is exactly what LEDs were meant for. If you just don't like them fair enough. But I really think you should look into them.

Although I'm an HID guy (I do use a 240W LED in my mother/clone tent though), that's very reasonable.
I have a friend in Alberta who runs 12 1000W HPS in flower in a grid pattern, and alternates the lights over the 12-hour on period. Using a staggered approach, half are on and half are off, every hour, they switch. Provides the same coverage, just alternating.
