I wouldn`t 110 recepticals for 220 either so there you go.That`s about as dangerous as you can get..One wrong plug and oooooopppps

I don`t know what he`s runnin.A 20/20 industrial or what???????I just went back and looked at his power distribution pannel.That looks SCARY.He can`t use the timer to seperate his power distribution from 220 to 110 unless he splits da legs on the 220

he has a 240 receptacle if you had bothered to even look at the pics.
and no one told him to put 220 on 110... your grasping at straws man

it is a possibility but not very likely in this case. it really depends on just how many things your using all at once.. the stove and appliances dont bother me, but those 15amp breakers are what usually overloads a main... people just buy extension cords and power strips and go nuts plugging things in, not realizing they are running unbalanced loads that make main breakers trip...
to accuratly answer your question i would need the TOTAL WATTAGE of everything in the entire house that is plugged in and uses power. its what we call THE DEMAND FACTOR in the electrical business... its a pain in the ass to get all the wattages but you have to do it if you want to know

Sweet thanks guys i like this debate its becoiming an intresting thread and im learning quite a bit... U know i could runnn through all my stuff and tell u the total wattage but i still have do a dry run of my room and test temps and humdity so at the same time i will turn on a bunch of appliances and things and see how much it can take, if the 100 amp breaker gives itll giv eme an idea of my max... if not then even better

do what we call the thanksgiving test... we figure that on thanksgiving, on average thats when a household will use the most power, everyone is home, so the heat is on, lights are all on. mom is wearing out the kitchen using micro, stove, oven, and a crockpot or two, and someone is doing laundry while all the tv's and comps are on
you pretty much turn on everything in the house and let it run for an hour or two

LOOK I told him to get 10/3 okay.I`m a Marine certified electrician and a third class engineer.I wouldn`t do anything to hurt the guy.I`ve worked wireing and distribution out of 980KVA generators for years.I`m just trying to figure what he`s runnin that takes os much power..I know your smart.I`m not trying to dis you.lets try at a comprimise and work ytogether to help this guy.DRIF

The 220 is the main plug.But 220 on 110 recepticals is still very dangrous

Yea thats the plan, im going to stick with the #6 as i want to get this done. Cant wait to fire up those lights and hear those ballasts purrR!!!

ah then so you understand the concept of voltage drop, impedence and rating for ambient temp?
because table 310-16b of the NEC does not allow for these factors, which is where you probably got the 40 amp rating for #10 @ 90c
that rating is for single conductors installed in a conduit with no more than 3 current carrying conductors.
10/3 romex or multi-conductor cable is not rated, nor ever was rated for 40 amps

k guys i got these wired into the female , i wanna do this side of the job first before i hook up to the panel.... ust a quick question where does the bare wire( green ) go to?

to the screw in the grey box or to the top of the female plug like:

Green

Black Red

White

Top is green
Left is black
Right is red
Bottom is white

This is looking from the front , if looking from the back the left would be red and the right would be black

bottom (smallest prong) is the ground


g= ground green
w= white/neutral
x= black phase 1 hot
y= red phase 2 hot

x and y can be swapped, it doesnt matter

EDIT I HAD A TYPO..

K so red and black can go into either left or right and from reading before red and black can be swapped in the panel as well as to top or bottom????

yeah i hate those 40/50 amp receptacles... there ALWAYS a bitch to get back in the box once its made up. bending the wires is fine, just make sure there isnt any nicks or cuts in the insulation and the wire doesnt pull out of the screws on the plug
