Electricians: Can you run extention cords over gas lines to support them

I need to run an extension cord and instead of it going on the floor and tripping over it, I want to let it rest on a gas line that runs along my ceiling. Is this okay??

Yea no problem. Just make sure like the guy above said it's rated to carry the current your running on it. If your running lights I would recommend a 12 awg extension cord. That way if for some reason you run too much it can handle it until breaker pops. Assuming it's a 15 a circuit.

iam a gas man, never run elec touching gas line staple few inch away please:bigjoint:
What about the tracer wire that runs along the entire gas main as well as the services? It would be the same idea... carries an electric current when hooked up to the finder...
im a pipe layer so i deal with gas lines every day.
Not disputing you im just saying this in my own curiotisty.
Maybe differnt in Canada? (Im Canadian)

Also sometimes we come across gas and bell (or fiber oprics) running along the gas.

Im commercial. Under ground.
The tracer wires here carry a current through them usually taped onto the gas line so when we are trying to locate them with our tool it lights it right up.

Most services are 3/4 inch yellow polly. Then depending on town or city the gas main can be from 1 inch and up. Biggest iv seen is 4inch.

We hit services once in a while while were digging with the hoe.... man are they ever loud hahaha.

wrap the gas pipe in a piece of tape or something to stop the contact of the extension cord if you worried about that...you just cant have 2 dissimilar metals touching as it will cause corrosion.
