but what made him pick up a gonna in the 1st place ive been round people wif mental illnesses n usally its something that makes them snap like that i mean it can be anything from not saying a word right to sneezing i rember i almost got into a fight wif some kid who had problems all cuz i sat in the wrong seat i kno this guy didnt jus wake up n start blastin somethin had to set em off

if we took mental health as seriously as we take things like cancer or heart disease, we would be bothering to have a system that runs certain types of tests often enough to collect data that can be used to predict and treat behavior. maybe if guys like the shooter were given certain head scans, blood/gene tests, psyche evals, whatever, as part of a routine workup, we would start to paint a picture of what's going wrong. we would notice anomalies in more people and come up with better ways to treat them before a problem progresses, and based on what we KNOW instead of what we suspect.

And don't yell at me, it's not nice.
I agree, don't touch my guns. But I do think if you're gonna use a story, use the whole story. I saw that stabbing story yesterday and thought about posting almost the exact same thing you did. But then I realized that if I gave the whole story, it wouldn't be as effective. Rather than tell a half truth, I didn't say anything at all.

what was the motive for all this
He was a little worm kid. On top of that everyone, especially his fucking mom, knew he was fucked up in the head. She even said to someone not too long before this incident that she was losing him and that he was getting worse...something close to that, don't quote me. Instead of getting this obvious worm kid the help that he should have gotten, nothing was done. Little fucking worm! WORM KID!!!!

Um, people are banned from carrying knives, because they can be used as an offensive weapon. Otherwise, the knives stay in the kitchen for menial domestic tasks. They are banned and confiscated and sold under strict regulations for home use for good reason, because knife crime is a big problem.

Guns on the other hand should banned in the home and outdoors, because they are PURELY and offensive weapon, first and foremost and civilians have no business with them, not that a gun is useful for menial domestic tasks.

If you want to shoot guns for sport, go to a shooting range, like you run away to the circus if you feel like knife-throwing. If you need a gun to protect yourself from a bear or some shit you cannot reason with or disarm (and most people consider an animal life below that of a human) then fair enough, have A gun in your home or carry one only in the woods if you have a hunting license.

WTF was the woman doing collecting guns when the charge of a boy known to have obsessive compulsive tendencies and a volatile nature. Civilians just should not be allowed to collect shit like that because it's too easy and common that his shit happens. I mean if you want to make the knife comparison, still, how much do you hear about someone going around massacreing people with a samurai sword? (I'm sure someone in modeern times has used a sword in an attack once, sure, but the fact of the matter is people do also collect them) but the states has a disturbing obsession with weapons. Trust me, I can appreciate a beautifully made antique musket but do we really have to have eveeything we want all the time? Demand the security of our children and then complain about thesame safety measures (OMFG its a police state!) brought in to protect our dumb asses frm ourselves? The suggestions made for security in this thread would create absolute uproar if the state thought of it (there shouldn't be guards in schools! Police state! Fuck off let us run our own affairs!' Can't have it both ways, people. Letting people have their guns is just not manageable.

As an artist I am used to having to hand over Swiss army knives, scissors, palette and craft knives to security, because until people stop doing dumb violent shit they are just going to have take everyone's guns because assessing the suitability of every person wanderingabout the street with a lethal weapon just isn't something you can judge on a case by case basis. Or just wait until they go psycho on someone... Even people who legally own the gun and have bee n granted permission to carry can do stupid, violent shit. It just shouldn't be allowed to happen. Blame security all you want, guns should not have been in the hands of the people and before you answer, the answer is not to just 'have moar/bigger gunz than the bad guys in elementary schools.

Life is a fuckingnarms race these days. Never ending cycle of violence in our arrogant and selfish drives for self preservation over someone else. Maybe sometimes we have to count our losses instead of feeling we have to right to potentially blowmsomeone's brains out on a whim. I'm not talking about someone shooting your children, though the odds of that are low but if you're a victim of crime, shooting the fuckermdoesnt make you any better.

Pencils can also be used as an offensive weapon. Do you have to hand those over also? What about you hands and feet? Do those detach for the convenience of your rulers who outlawed the keeping of weapons by civilians for the sole purpose of quelling rebellions before they happened, and not for the protection of the populace?

Yes, you are 100% correct about guns being PURELY an offensive weapon...EXCEPT for the myriad number of times they have been used in a defensive way.

I guess we should make it easy for large predators to stalk and rape women, right? That's just one example of many stories that have shown that guns are defensive weapons as much as they are anything else. And nobody can say that their defensive applications are only necessary when someone is using one in an offensive manner because 1) that's bullshit and wrong, and 2) in the link I provided the attacker didn't have a gun.

Having a gun/the 2nd amendment has nothing to with it's necessity of hunting bears/protecting yourself from them.

She wasn't a gun collector, she had some guns. She doesn't need some reason that you find valid for doing so. They were more than likely kept locked up also. Where she fucked up was when she didn't get her worm-kid son the mental health attention that she knew he needed. Your samurai sword comparison is more-or-less a straw man argument. But if guns were less prevalent I'm sure we would hear more stories about how people use BLADED WEAPONS, and not just samurai swords (straw man) to commit murder.

Yes, life is an arms race. Valid point. Yes, there is a never-ending cycle of violence in the world. Do you have any ideas to cure this? Not even the countries with the most stringent views towards guns, swords, etc... like the UK and Japan, among others, have found a way to completely curb this cycle. Do you know something that all of humanity hasn't been able to discover for the past 7 million or so years? If so I would love to know so that we can apply it and live in world where we can get rid of all weapons, and disband all police, militia, and military forces. Then we can all just smoke, fuck, listen to awesome music, chill out, and just overall enjoy life.

And lastly, if I'm the victim of crime, shooting someone might not make me any better, but it might make me alive, and I'm not looking to be arbitrarily better than some pissant fuck. PS you never indicated what kind of crime I'm shooting someone over....

Hun, a gun is manufactured for combat, a fucking pencil is for drawing though I acknowledge for some odd reason someone migh attack someone with a sharpened pencil but are you seriously comparing a

Attacking to defend is still attacking. If your child or you get detention for fighting as an act of self defense in elementary school, then why is it ok for adults to pop a cap in eachother because they 'need to defend themselves'.

And I've made this poit enough times. I am not saying one should 'lay down and take it because shooting won't make you better' as someone who hasn't had to deal with violent crime, living in a middle-class utopia dreamworlds.

I grew up in the 'ghetto' areas of London, I am a woman and I have been assaulted and raped on several occasions. Just to put that bluntly. Doesn't mean I should walk around with a gun. I still don't feel I have the right to put a bullet in someone because I think it might happen again, just as people attack me for making comments on men being predatory and what I'd like to do to some attackers (though I wouldn't act on it) despite what happened to me.

Everyones got a fucking vendetta, even the people who appear sane enough shouldn't have a gun.

But sugar-britches, though guns are indeed manufactured for combat you seem to be neglecting the fact defense is have of any combat situation.

That sucks that you have been raped and assaulted once, let alone multiple times, but because it's happened to you and you feel that you don't want to take any extra precautions to protect yourself doesn't mean that other women/people don't want to/shouldn't be able to. I would only get on you about predatory men comments if you were ignorant enough to believe that all men acted in such a way.

You guys Know they do make Stun guns right? They are pretty effective...though I have heard of rare occasions that they have not worked. My brother who is a cop said to my sisters bf who had one yeah come on, do it. And I heard it brought him to his knees. I would and wouldnt feel comfortable with a gun because....If someone broke into my house and I had a gun, Would i shoot them? Chances are they would get scared and freeze up, or trying running away. But if you did have to shoot them, you could very possibly get prison time for killing them or even damages done to them. One guy breaks in, I say I would feel safe with a stun gun and/or a bat.

Any and all weapons are made and designed for combat. They're "weapons". The only purely defensive technologies are not weapons and are collectively called armor. Armoring is impractical and uncomfy.

I think you would prefer harming your attacker to being harmed by him. The use of a weapon in self-defense is a basic right, whether or not our national codices agree on the point. You seem to be arguing that submission is morally superior. I'm not agreeing with that one. cn

Maybe it's my wolf mind speaking; the delicate alternation of dominance and submission. I respect you so I am officially laying down and showing you my belly.

It is also disrespectful to argue in this thread, so I am sorry.

Stand up, Kuroi. Inappropriate submission. Be proud please; I am not your alpha. Stand tall.

As for arguing, I disagree. (Wanna argue? ;) ) threads like these are made for arguing. You and I are doing it politely. We are disagreeing on particulars in a way that preserves our mutual respect. But I also suggest to your inner wolf that intruders and attackers are fair meat. My opinion. cn

Again joke, and knives aren't banned to carry down here.

To add to that, we're also the number one state to carry concealed guns, don't see any mass shootings here. It's just a random violent act, it happens all over the world. The ONLY thing you can do is up the defense, dunno how many times I've said this, if people want a gun they will get a gun, even of they were to be banned outside, you really think a crazy person is going to listen to that law?
