Elons Little Plan

No credit for anybody who actually made this happen, just Elon jetting in from fucking up Twitter to fuckup the launch. He grabs all the glory and shares little, less all the time. He posts this on his personal Twitter account, instead of SpaceX's, the glory would actually help their stock price instead of boosting Elon's over inflated ego. Usually, the ego expands when people feel their social statues is threatened and a big ego is often a fear reaction. It is not normal behavior for a normally socialized human being, Elon's ego is leading him around by the nose and not giving him a break. I mean the whole point of money is a means to live well, it is not an end perse, and this is the self-destructive sickness is the result. Elon did not get this fucked up suddenly, he's been like that for a while and it helped him get rich, but at the cost of being an utter asshole. The illness is progressive though and the more fuel he pours on the bonfire of his ego, the hotter it will burn.

Found this nugget, apparently a half-speed vid of ignition and liftoff. The qd arm is right at the join of the two stages and gives a good indicator of when the stack starts moving. Pretty much at that moment the blast debris gets thicker and dark, and some big chunks get tossed all over. (I believe that is the moment the pad has a catastrophic failure.) Early there is that L-shaped big piece right up against the booster. The vid loops, and it hypnotizes me pretty well. The hot end of the stack must have been mauled as badly as a tourist in bear country. I don’t think that side shimmy is natural, and you can see several irregularities in the exhaust jet.

There was also a still of the tank farm peppered with dozens of deep dents.

IMHO they were lucky the whole stack never went off like an A bomb on the pad. I wonder how far the booster stage would have tossed the starship section if it exploded the right way and which direction it would go in!

What did happen was not so much a bomb as a 210-gigawatt jackhammer/blowtorch combo!
Everyone is lucky that the smacked stack staggered as far as it did. In a way, it’s one hell of a vindication of the basic design.

Welp I feel so ashamed and hypocritical but as of yesterday I can now watch something other than my partner is watching. Yes I am the latest Starlink user (going to camouflage the dish next week somehow) :(. In my defence I was stuck with 20 mb download at its highest speed and typically 10 after 4pm. Had a 350 gig cap and with sat tv was spending over $200 a month. I really hate the concept but given the choices here I felt I had no choice. I can now watch in HD on two tv’s at once and still use RIU without something going down, yay! Hopefully it lasts a bit before the satellites start taking out each other and landing on the house next door…. actually that would be ok if their dog was away lol.

Elon's doing exactly the same thing he does with Twitter and Tesla. He said a bunch of b.s. regarding the Twitter software that he clearly didn't understand as stated by several Twitter software engineers. It's no surprise he'd do the same with SpaceX: ignore the experts and make a capricious decision. He recently removed radar/ultrasonic sensors from the cars against the advise of Tesla engineers.

He really has devolved into a Trumpian narcissist who thinks he knows more than the doctors, engineers of any discipline, economist, journalist, etc.

His hubris knows no bounds

Apparently the Mollusk fired a very senior engineer who kept harping on the need for a better launch structure. Blast diverter, flame trench, deluge system like the OGs learned they needed for the heavies down on the Cape. Fantastic amounts of acoustic energy in a semiconfined space, which the water cascade tames. Spelon gambled and lost on an inadequate pad.

That said, Spacex is his best-run enterprise, so I expect rapid adaptation to the (coarsely) ground truth. Next test should be more about the vehicle.

This wasn't a secret, and it wasn't classified...muck did something stupid, and then cheered himself about it. A little research and this whole problem would have been avoided.

They called me a cab (drove company truck) a week after I raised serious safety concerns re lack of training/certification for heating techs. I’m happily retired now :(.

They sound like a bunch of assholes, get a job with the government inspecting them! Or freelance doing consulting, good money, more in sales.

I heard one plausible scenario, that the pad as it existed was not really useful, and that a more conventional structure would have to replace it.
But this way they get a flight test in, even if what they learn is incomplete.

So they need to build a proper launch facility in any case, and now they have real flight data on a new engine architecture and the big booster, using vehicles that were scrap in any case.

So, while I think the Mollusk often steps on his own dick out of sheer ego, and there was some of that here, Spacex is net ahead. “Anyway, it’s just a thought.”

Does slipping in your own shit and doing a flip down the stairs and landing on your feet instead of breaking your neck qualify you as anything besides very lucky at that moment? Do you think he'll manage another back flip the next time he does something stupid?

I’ll put it to you this way … it hasn’t so far earned my calling it anything nicer than Shartsip.
And as far as I’m concerned, he’s still a big kid with too much money and zero loyalty or honor.
