Left vs right is about economic ideology and policy, this fight is about something else and those are labels of convenience. The actual fight is between liberal democracy and fascism, it centers around social policies of inclusiveness and perceived imaginary social power. People go tribal and the republicans are at cold civil war with America and it's ethos, when you are psychologically at war you make sacrifices, even your rights, which are the first to go. Remember these people are under siege with hoards of brown people coming across the border and black folks taken over! They've gone as tribal as the Ukrainians, only they have a real reason, because the Russians really are trying to exterminate them and their culture. They know they are losing, because they need to cheat to win and have been doing it. You don't resort to rigging the game if you can win on your merits or policies, what are their policies?

I used to buy into the idea (and still do depending on context) that left vs right and dem vs rep was sort of a fake construct, controlled opposition. Not so much anymore, we can call the sides whatever we want, but the current reality is we have real actual social issues where there is a clear divide.

I don’t necessarily think that it’s a fake construct, considering that we all have the left / right build in our brains - and subsequently, minds. I think that it’s more along the lines of people being worked on account of that split. The goal in depth psychology is repairing the split, there is peace in observing after the fact. It’s a lifelong process, and it should be treated fairly delicately - however, modern day politics is about setting up the battle, less so about avoiding one.

My opinion, and, I’m not disagreeing with your statement. My thought is to get to the root, guaranteed it’s all planted in the same medium.
