emptying tank

i would just install a 1/2" or 3/4" bulkhead fitting on the bottom of the res tub with a valve...and keep it on something so you can get a container under the drain when your emptying

yeah...it'll work but you wont get it 100% out...and make sure you put the res on something high...a siphon only works if the thing you are siphoning into is lower than the thing you are emptying

Ebb & Flow/Bulkhead Fitting - 1/2": http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=HPMAABK12&eq=&Tp=
Shutoff Valve - 1/2": http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=HPMIV12&eq=&Tp=

use a drill with a 1-1/4" hole saw to make the hole for the fitting: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202256372/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

use some plumbers tape around the threads of the fitting: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202536834/h_d2/ProductDisplay?selectedCatgry=SEARCH+ALL&jspStoreDir=hdus&catalogId=10053&navFlow=3&keyword=plumbers+tape&Ntpc=1&langId=-1&Nu=P_PARENT_ID&storeId=10051&Ntpr=1&ddkey=Search

use a small piece ~3" long of 1/2" poly hose to connect the drain to the valve and leave the valve closed until you want to drain

1/2" hose: http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=HPMT12&eq=&Tp=

the drain will be much easier than the syphon, and you wont eat any of the water

and it wont no pump will pull all the water out, a basic break down is needed. I take it to the shop drain and wash with a garden hose. every res dump I fully break down and clean

I use a sump pump connected to a garden hose. Harbor freight cheapo works great. I empty into a sanitary sink in the winter and into my vegetables in the summer. A good shop vac also works very well for getting every last drop out.
