i herd the same about bud candySome people swear by Terpinator. I ran it for a grow and it produced an extra amount of resins but made all the strains have a similar taste.
so what about terpene and smell loss with coco but soil stinks and holds the terp profiles its not geneticTerpenes exist in more than cannabis and attempts to increase terpenes in other plants have all been failures. Not able to increase or alter. Not saying it can’t be done but seems like a waste of time.
Run 2 clones, 1 in soil and 1 in coco. Same nutes. I run in both and I can't tell the difference. I feed with compost and manure teas in both, but I doubt that has much to do with it since they are the same buds, coco just gets there quicker.so what about terpene and smell loss with coco but soil stinks and holds the terp profiles its not genetic

I don't grow in store bought soil, but I usually shave 2 weeks off in coco to reach 12/12.@3rd Monkey

Interesting, what has your experience been with the differences time wise growing in say pro mix vers coco?
impressive, any tips for growing in coco?I don't grow in store bought soil, but I usually shave 2 weeks off in coco to reach 12/12.
I don't know your grow experience, so some may be redundant, but I'll share what I consider the top 5 errors I see. Hope they help.impressive, any tips for growing in coco?

Biggest thing would be watering. Use a fine drop watering jug to prevent compaction, which greatly reduces the need for perlite, allowing more water and nutrient solution to be held for longer, while keeping oxygen levels optimal. That goes for any medium, though coco greatly benefits from its water retention and porosity, so use it.
Make sure you buffer it beforehand. It holds K like a mother.
Repot often. Start small and repot every 2 weeks to get the fastest growth and to prevent the coco from getting stagnant.
PH is a significant player, 5.8-6.2 is preferable to me.
Treat it like hydro. Calculate nute ppms individually so you can track what goes in, what comes out, and what needs adjustment to fine tune.

Your first paragraph is the answer. They're fucking up the cure to get it out quicker. My local dispensary grows in coco and their buds look very nice but usually have zero smell or flavor. Their flower is usually on the dry side which is where i think the terpene loss is coming from. If you look at the harvest/testing/packaging dates they usually have it all done within 2-3 weeks, where normally just drying in Hawaii takes about 2 weeks by itself.
I just started using coco on half my garden but havent harvested any coco plants yet. I've been growing in straight promix for the last couple years, which is technically a soilless medium, and I really dont have any issues with a lack of terps from any of my keeper cuts, but i will come across bland smelling stuff from seed. I usually get compliments on the flavor and smell of my flowers whenever I share it with people.
You can consider using chitosan oligosaccharide at around 200ppm to enhance trichomes/terpene production. Theres a big thread with good info on ICmag about it. A few bottled products contain it but I just get it off ebay. It wont register on an EC meter so you have to use a scale and some math to calculate the dosage.
Sulfur is also an important element for terpene production.
