Examples of Democratic Party leadership

I'm a pastafarian.
"Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy sauce be yum, on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day, our garlic bread, …and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample upon our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. R’amen."
That's a great dinner blessing to memorize and say at a big family dinner. Lotsa +reps for that one!

:peace:

Every time they get their two years he does this, so you must be right. Can you imagine what it was like for his neighbor? I'd end up killing him metaphorically because it's against the law to threaten a Senator:D
i would just become the neighbor from hell until he moved...and trust me, i could accomplish that, in a pretty short period of time.
cut down a tree and watch it fall on his property, in his pool, or on his pool house, or his garage, or his car...then say sorry while i cut it up at 6 am the next day.
spread fresh manure on my lawn, weekly. hold large, late, loud parties. pay people to stand at the end of his driveway and make notes of when he's coming and going. invite food trucks to park in front of his house. write "i suck dick" on his lawn with pool shock just before it rains.
buy a large unhappy dog that barks a lot and chain it up where he can hear it....
there are so many ways to make neighbors sorry they ever saw you...

I had a neighbor who liked to store her fertilizer outside of the back of the garage, effectively making my front door smell like a dead body- it was in a large trash container, touching my wall..:fire:

nah, Rand is a prick, but assault&battery isn’t the way to deal with him. Neighbor got one heckuva sentence too.
Idk, im of the belief that sometimes violence is the appropriate response. Will give that it probably wasn't in this case, but man I understand. We all know a couple of Rand's, it's the guy that doesn't stop talking and just keeps digging at people. He just strikes me as someone who behaves atrociously, not really based on political views...his personality. So it wasn't right to punch him, but I get it.

Worth noting is that "national hero" doesn't have the same requirements it once did.

I would say the only situation that legitimately has a violent response is one that is currently or imminently violent, and not all of those.

Someone being an irritant doesn’t rise to the qualifying threat level, even if it infuriates.

To the first paragraph, several things.
1) Hitler did not simply talk shit. He commanded the might of a nation and turned it toward genocide and conquest. So, different category and different appropriate response.
2) Punching Hitler has a coupla practical problems. Klaus Six-pack didn’t get the opportunity. Also, if you had the access, punch him to what effect? It’s a weird little reverie no matter how you slice it.
3) The best current parallel is Putin. We’re dealing with him at the national level, with economic sanctions on his nation, and material assistance to the other guy. In Paul’s instance, his being a legislator is incidental.

To the second paragraph, let’s say living with it, moving away or waiting for them to stop is not an option. And let’s say asking them to stop that shit failed.
Faced with the situation, I would set up a way to repeatedly record them doing it. The local newspaper or TV station is likely to be interested in a hate crime situation like that. If not, litigation presents itself. Maybe a Youtube channel. Shame the bastards.
But punching somebody is a Popeye the Sailor sort of bad-comedy solution that has the problem that it is criminally violent. It is simply wrong.

The problem can be decisively countered using socially and morally acceptable means, so long as the objective isn’t revenge.

I'm middle aged so don't punch people, it is silly, but I like to argue and can't find people to argue with about things that matter so...

Hitler didn't start out in charge of Germany. He was street fighting man with his weird little group. He graduated to using words to promote and do violence. Through the use of language he gained power and propelled the group into power. He was the small pissant who gained a following with words, started his leadership role of the party around 1920, but they polled around 3% until 1930. He just kept talking though and nobody knew what to do about it until it was too late.

Yeah there wouldn't be an impact, but...what if people just kicked the shit out of the nazis when they were at 3%. Germany just let them keep talking. They could have been stopped before becoming a thing two ways, treating them as nothing and giving zero audience or platform so it cant gain traction, or just kicking the shit out of them. In modern society there are platforms and audiences for everything, so I don't think that would be an option.

This is way way too many words to devote to a nazi example.

To the second, idk...maybe it works to try and apply social pressure to publicly shame bad behavior, but the dude screaming nigger probably doesn't care much. I would think public ridicule over the anti vax people drinking bleach and putting light bulbs up their butts would have done it, but it kind of illustrates the world we live in. They can turn away from real society to whatever accepts and celebrates their shittiness. Rittenhouse was a murderer, he is celebrated in many circles, as an example.

sounds like a plan!

Ok. I wasn’t thinking that far back. But it has a vague alt-hist fiction feel to it, like knowing how the show develops in the future.

The Rittenhouse thing leaves me nonplussed. What in the metric fuck, y’know?

As for the bleachies, it’s hard to shame them when they have the support of a good-sized group of like thinkers. In the specific example, shaming might work better done locally. But it really is plan C, behind plan A of getting the TV station (and then the cops) interested in a de facto hate crime, or plan B of suing their asses for verbal assault. It would depend on what a local jury might think of it; some places those neighbors would be sorta normal.

In any case, I’d look hard for a way at the problem which isn’t itself criminal. Guy who broke Congressman Butthead’s ribs has ten years of time he’s doing. Course he seems like a slow learner.

Where are you seeing he got ten years? I can only find that he got eight months prison followed by six months home confinement, is there more to the story I'm missing?

Somewhat related point, it's bullshit that he had to plead guilty to attacking a member of congress being they have a history as neighbours. That should only apply where politics is the main cause for the assault. Caste hierarchy should not apply if justice is to be applied equally.

wups, “up to 10 years”. I misread.

I agree with the somewhat related point, but should and is do sometimes part company.

It does nothing to improve my opinion of Paul.

I wonder how commensurate the neighbors sentence was in conjuction to the Insurrectionists who killed people that day and beyond? The fuckers climbing our Capitols walls; Trump was willing to sacrifice his own Vice President?

1920? Pandemic. They had to stop WWI, not enough participants.

As for your second paragraph? You could always live in a bubble in rural, then cable came around and you had FOX. but SM has chrystalized and sealed the deal. You can make your own world and barely leave thanks to Amazon.

Rittenhouse still is celebrated.

Mr. Boucher has time to write a book about it. I'll buy it. He's a patriot.
