Arizona steps up criminal probe of GOP in 2020 election: report
Arizona is ramping up a criminal probe into allegations of efforts to overturn the 2020 election by state Republicans, The Washington Post reported.

Citing two sources familiar with the probe, The Post reported that Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) is stepping up her criminal probe into alleged attempts by Republicans to turn over the election results, in which they reportedly signed and transmitted paperwork falsely claiming former President Trump won the election in the state. The sources also said that investigators were requesting information and records from local election officials, as well as evidence collected by the Justice Department and a prosecutor in Atlanta, who are both looking into similar cases.

Mayes said in an interview with The Guardian in March that she planned to investigate the fake electors who signed the documents falsely claiming Trump was the winner, adding that she planned to also reach out to federal officials about it.

“We are planning to reach out to federal officials on that matter. Beyond that, I’m not going to comment on it,” she said at the time.

She also launched an investigation to determine whether voter fraud occurred in the state during the 2020 election but ultimately found no evidence of widespread fraud.

“The results of this exhaustive and extensive investigation show what we have suspected for over two years – the 2020 election in Arizona was conducted fairly and accurately by elections officials,” she tweeted in February.

Mayes’s chief deputy, Dan Barr, told The Post that the investigation is still in its “fact-gathering” stage.

“This is something we’re not going to go into thinking, ‘Maybe we’ll get a conviction,’ or ‘Maybe we have a pretty good chance,’” he said. “This has to be ironclad shut.”

Shortly after the 2020 election, fake electors organized to falsely declare Trump the winner in multiple key swing states that decided the election in favor of President Biden. Since then, multiple investigations have been launched in connection with these attempts, including by special counsel Jack Smith’s office and the Fulton County district attorney in Georgia.

Smith reportedly reached agreements with at least two fake GOP electors to provide them limited immunity in exchange for testifying before a grand jury, CNN reported in June.

Not like debating a MAGA Republican, might even say something bad about Donald.

An already weeks-long heat wave is intensifying this weekend, impacting millions from California to Texas to Florida.

Las Vegas residents have been advised to stay indoors as temperatures there are forecast to top 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Phoenix has opened "respite centers" to help provide relief and Arizona health officials have asked residents to keep their vehicles stocked with water.

Heat alerts have been issued in places like Miami, Houston and San Antonio, Texas, in the past week.

Christie is more of a hitman for the party than a serious contender, even if the field is blown wide open with a Trump conviction. Something tells me Chris is doing the bidding and being financed by Trump's many enemies inside the GOP, Mitch and Rove come to mind, he is their attack dog while they wait for the courts to deal with Donald.

i sort of see it the same way, he has to know he will never be a serious contender, but he can sure have a lot of fun fucking with trump, and on someone else's buck.

He's not wrong. Those carvings on the face of Mt Rushmore is part of an American holocaust. That's a story that deserves to be told and remembered. But you aren't wrong either. The tribes who own that land want it returned. Not a payment but to have the land returned to them.
There is no doubt in my mind that what happened was wrong and completely unfair. The courts have agreed it was wrong and set aside money as compensation. I believe the bold becomes a contentious point as it comes across as disingenuous. Now, I also believe there is a very valid argument that there should be compensation for the value extracted from the land beyond just returning it to their custody. My point being that by attempting to 'sell' the argument that payment has no direct bearing on the land being returned simply causes more friction and prevents reasonable discourse from occurring. The land should be returned, how to determine the value of compensation is the difficult part. Hopefully it's not a discussion that has to wait another decade.

“It really saddens me that we’ve got some tribal members that want to accept the money and they don’t realize the harm they’re going to do; they don’t really understand why we say the Black Hills are sacred,” said former Oglala Sioux Tribe President Theresa Two Bulls.

"Edward Charging Elk, a member of the Rosebud Tribe, has put together one such proposal for a bill that he says is “realistic and doable” that focuses on three elements: the return of 1.3 million acres of the Black Hills, relabeling the trust money as back rent and then agreeing on the terms of future rent for the resources from the land to the tune of roughly $7 million a year."

EDIT*** I'm not only thinking of this case of First Nation land issues, many treaties have been broken and my thought process is with them in mind as well.

Money is a golden egg. Land is the goose that lays’m. The land is the thing of real value here.

That’s why America’s powerful will fight the idea of returning the land. They’ll fight like wolverines dipped in meth and fire ants.
