Generally wait I do is build a box around the fan itself. Then suspend this box from the roof using bunjie's or something else that can reduce vibration. Then just run the duct outside and it should be pretty quiet.

To all those paranoid about the sound of air going out of a window, just put a window fan in the window so it looks like it's making the fan noise.

Also think that 1000's of people in your neighborhood are using portable A/C unit's and they all have a hose that connects to a window for exhaust. Doesn't in any way indicate you are growing.

They are on cars and you can find them anywhere....think car muffler.

If you put that thing in a box all by itself I guarantee no one can hear the air coming out of the hose. It's the fan that's making the noise, it just makes a noise like rushing air.

I had this problems when i first built my rooms to. The canfan was making so much noise i had to build the Sound box , but that just made the fan quite now i had so much air flow you could hear the air moving. I then looked at my setup my fan was to close to the hole going to the outside the farther away from the out side hole the better, and get some insulation wrap to wrap around your ducing next to the hole. This should cut down your air flow noise. Good luck man

Make yourself a box out of cardboard or ridgid foam and tape. Aluminum tape works best. If you are using 4" duct make a box that is 12" square, 6"-16"box. Cut holes on opposite ends of box.Attach duct to holes using flanges or tape works. Cut them so they are offset from eachother one high, one low so the air doesn't go directly through, it has to bounce around in the box before being forced out. This will dramatically reduce the sound of air exiting the duct. another cool thing about this is at home stores they sell carbon filters for air fresheners, they can be installed in the box to be secure no bad smells are exiting. Or one of those air fresheners you attach to your furnace filter, it blows out flowery scents, slap a dryer vent cover on the outside and they will think you are always doing laundry. All great cheap ideas I've picked up from veteran growers. good luck.:weed:
