Hi guys, I have a grow tent in my out house, I have a 4" inline fan which u can't hear from the outside exept for where the ducting exits the the air above the door, its the only place I can have it, the trouble is u can hear the air coming out from about 6-8' away which is no problem exept for my neighbors on one side which just happens to be the ones we don't get on with, iv just done my first grow which was more of a learning curve than anything else, I have my next one all planned out but my mrs is getting paranoid about them next-door hearing the vent so doesn't want me to do another grow, is there some way I could muffle the sound of the vent to reduce the noise? Any advice would be much appreciated thanks

Thanks sb52, I didn't know about duct silencers, I just read the booklet that came with my fan and realised if I wire it up differently it operates at a slower speed! I'll try that. If its not much better I'll try the silencer, thanks again for ur help.

Hi ya Csj :)

all is not lost man :)

You can wire a controller between the mains and the fan ... very simple and very cheap .

I might get blasted for this .... But i use dimmer switches .... People cry that it should not be done as it can burn out the fan motor over time ...But ... Myself and many other have used a dimmer switch for years ... without any issues .

you can buy expensive controllers that just do the same thing a cheap dimmer switch will do ...The choice is yours .

if you would like to see a few pics on how to do it ... let me know :)

thanks for that vento so is it just the live that goes in? have you just cut the neutral so its not used? then joined the two earth wires to gether? have you not had any problems atall with fan or sockets. thanks for your help m8

p.s i have brown blue and an earth wire comeing from plug then the same comeing from the fan, so do i just put the 2 brown into the c then cut the 2 blues and join the earths together?

Hi ya Rob :)

sorry for the delay ... been busy :)

Disregard the blue wire...its just a spare in the flex :)

What i did was run a flex long enough to reach a plug socket ... fixed the dimmer switch box to the wall and poked the flex thru the top and out the bottom and popped a plug on it.
then i pulled some slack from inside the box and just stripped the white flex cover off ( careful not to cut into the wires inside ) now i have 3 wires ( forget blue just a spare ...i cut it out ) .... all i did was snip the brown wire and trim both ends and wire them to the dimmer plate ( terminals inside may be marked different ... Follow connection guides that come with the dimmer )...I popped the face of the dimmer onto the box and pluged it in .... took less than 5 minz to rig up from start to finish :)

Hope that helps :)
