expanding my grow room...couple questions

I have been growing very successfully for a little over a year now (I think). I have a veg box and a floxer box. Veg holds about 4 plants, Flower holds two to completion.

My husband is currently downstairs right now building me a new box that is

5ft wide
4ft tall
4ft deep

I am online looking to purchase HPS lamp for it.

I grow two plants currently with one 400watt HPS that is supplemented with CFLs.

I was wondering how much light im going to need for the new box.

how many watts total?
should i purchase two smaller watt lights or one big on in the middle?

should i supplement with CFLs like in the other box?

I tried too and never understood lumens or lumens per inch and all that jazz.

please help me!

My other one is just a grow light, but would it make a difference? I think not.

If you have experience Stop a minute .4 ft tall is a short ass box you already have one to small now your making one to short.Unless you have plenty of money to put expensive growing floresents in.Plants get heat stress from light to close.Tell him to go at least 6 or 7 ft or you will wish you did later.I built a room 4 ft tall had to raize roof to 7 ft for hps 400w.goodluck glad i seen this no bull shit!go taller

I will certainly heed your advice, but the plants I grow are pretty short and fat plants. I will go down and talk with him now though and get his opinion

Yes 4' is way to short. Make it as tall as possible. I personally would just buy a grow tent if I were you. a 400watt light will work perfect for that space. I would buy six 3 gallon pots to grow in a 5' x 4' area. You shouldn't need any cfl's either. I mean a light hood and crap is gonna take up the top foot at least and then the pot is gonna take up the bottom foot and you need a foot between the light and plants, so that leaves you with 1 foot for plants, not good, why bother really.

Well, we had the talk, and he was a little pissed cause he was cutting hte last piece of wood, and its frickin cold outside.

He called me a pain in the ass, but in a loving manner and swears if I need it bigger, he will make it bigger for me when the plants get bigger.

Its a good compromise.

One of my plants is getting eggs laid on them and its weird...Ive never had an insect problem before. It is only effecting one plant.
