extracting nutrients from soil? would this work???

I was looking at the bag of soil I used and it said the nutrients are released when it gets wet. My question is can i put the soil in a bottle, mix it with some water, and let it sit, shaking every once in a while. then extract the water and use on my plant? If this could work how long would you let it sit?

The Nutes [NPK] in the soil, are weak, but would prob sustain plant for a couple of months...
When your leaves get yellow, and dying, it will be for lack of 'N' of the NPK...
You can go low budget, and not feed them any NPK.... the plant will be fine, however, if you want a big green plant.....

it was planted in the soil. I started it in a plastic red cup then moved it into 1 gallon of soil-less medium. the soil claims to have 6 months of nutrients for the plant. I just wanted to know so I could water the medium and those roots would get nutrients and not just the older roots. I don't think this is so ridiculous =/

I'm poor and I'm trying to do everything in my grow for free lol.
I hear ya buddy, there's a couple on here that "make" their own outa stuff you would throw away...lol..banana peels, old coffee grinds, egg shells, fish, worm castings....and they swear by it...I just got some MG house plant food 8-7-6 NPK (3-4 buck @ WallyWorld) and my soil (MG Garden soil) already has 15-10-5 in it so I haven't started nutes yet, waiting till they are well into a couple months of veg...and it's only been 32 days from sprout so far, so a ways to go yet...I'm a n00b and this is my first grow also...and the harsh reality and the consensus on here is, "if you're gona do it half assed, you're gona get half assed".......So ur best bet is to not buy that schwag you been smokin..lol..and get some stuff so you can grow ur own for free, it's an investment with a bigger payout than just smoke!!!

If it's MG that you have, pick the small white balls out and dissolve them in water, but no way to really tell accurately how much nutes you are getting.

well you could have mixed some of the soil with slow release nutes with the soiless medium so that its not wasted. still don't know what your getting at.

In the long run you probably should get some water soluble fertilizer and use it every few watering to feed the plants. It doesn't have to cost a lot for soil\soiless pot style of growing.

yeah, it's too late for that now the roots have already grown into the medium. I think I'm gonna have to buy some nutes, but the goal was to do it for free.
