Extraction fan

Recieved my RUCK 125 5" extraction fan and filter today to go in a DR100 1X1X2M with a 400w grolux light.
Problem is I hugely underestimated the noise of this beast its extremly loud and possibly overkill with 295m3/hour, I sleep in the same room as the tent.

Would a ''POWER REGULATOR, ELECTRIC SPEED CONTROLLER (Variac)'' from a popular auction site be sufficient to turn this down to about 1/3 of its power?

It's the only place it can go mate... This RUCK 125 literally sounds like an aircraft at full whack! Would a VARIAC power regulator from fleabay be sufficient to run this at 1/3 or 1/4?
