Extreme root bound example

Personally I don’t think roots being bound are a big issue as long as they have nutrients and aren’t vegging for ridiculous amounts of time. Nobody ever says dwc plants are root bound. Not sure what is supposed to be happening to the roots that would prevent them from working.

I've seen some pretty big plants in very small cups. I wouldn't recommend it but it is doable. I've also had some pretty large hydroponic plants with small root structures.

Ive kept mother plants for years in 2 gallon pots, ive keep plants in solo cups that were 3 ft tall...its not the plants roots ever. It is always the grower, the strains needs, its enviroment, its happinstance...but never the plants roots
I’d like to see a pic of this 3ft in a solo cup

Here's a 6ft plant in a 50 oz / 1.5 liter pot. Solo cups are 18 oz so a bit more volume for a plant twice the size..

Your maths is off 18 ounce is only half a litre but I get what your saying still wouldn’t say that plants don’t get root bound I’m not pro but iv seen plants side by side in different size pots and a bigger is always better from what Iv seen

Math is not off. It was 3 ft in a solo cup. I have a 6 ft in 1.5 liters. That's 50 oz's. About 3 solo cups. Which is why I said a bit more volume.

If one of my plants can't grow any more roots to sustain itself properly and even if it's fed multiple times per day and it still can't uptake enough liquid, I call that root bound.

I've been trying to find my ideal pot size for my own grows. The plant in the two gallon container was root bound.

Could I have done more work to keep the plant healthy? Probably, but I like to make my life easier, not more complicated. I certainly don't want to do any extra work than I have to, when the solution is to use a larger pot in the first place.
The soil simply becomes acidic. If rootbound was a thing then it would be impossible to grow in small containers.

What happens is that root to soil ratio becomes too high leading to an acidic rootzone. Periodic flushes are most important in a small container:

All those deficiencies are classic low pH.

This plant grew in a 200ml pot and was ‘rootbound’ very early on.

Rootbound simply just limits the plant size.

Wait, so he just showed you a pic of something that you didn’t even believe was possible and this is your answer? Lol, dude.
Bigger is not always better, right size for your growing style is better. Would 10 gallon pot make sense in my 4x4 tent? No, that would be stupid. More root mass and more medium is easier, and for many people that means better, but others that’s not an obstacle. Also automated systems it’s not as big a deal.......why do you think that is?

I guess it depends on your definition of root bound when I hear it I think the plant won’t grow any more because it dosent have room too not that it will die

you guys are getting things wrong when I think root bound I don’t think dying I think it’s gunna be small like a goldfish will only grow as big as it’s tank will let it I’m not saying you can’t grow in a small container I’m saying what’s the point in having it in say a 500ml pot when it can be a bigger plant

Anything can be done I guess but I mean efficiently like less pot changes and being able to train
Yeah when they reach about 2-3 foot is when i top them by about a foot then those new heads will grow till the solo cup needs to be watered to often (shortly after) then transplant

Like your analogue of a gas tank, in hydro you are constantly refilling the tank. Like those silly bikes that OCC made on TV, you could drive cross country if you wanted to refill the tank every 5 miles. And obviously they are not small like a goldfish. But yes, obviously pot size does limit the size of the plant you can grow but not to nearly the size people believe. Sure you are not going to be growing 40 oz trees but that is not really what the discussion is about.

I get what your saying I’m using 12liter pots but I’m trying to save money I smoke about 5gram a day so I want to try and get as much as I can out of my space

Dude that is way way too much. I would strongly suggest a detox of a few months and then try to keep it low when you start up again. Smoking that much of anything is not good for you. I've been smoking over 30 years and I used to smoke like you but now I smoke a joint a day during the week and 2 on the weekends, so like 0.5 to 1 gram per day and it's enough if you don't smoke too much. The more you smoke the more you need.
