As to me standing there.... I know from Robo-Cop, I always have 10 sec. to throw down my weapon. :)
So you would take your quad and fly it right next to you and let it go full auto? I would find cover myself since full auto will cause a lot of muzzle flip, which the quad will have to overcome to stay on target. Imagine just a slight twitch on the controls and the gun is shooting YOU.

Oh no. I have 10 secs. :)

I remember when the David, auto cannon was demonstrated. It was put on weapons free and a drone was to fly over.

It immediately tuned to the outhouse porta-pottie, for the Bass, ( mercifully UN-occuped) and opened fire. It though it detected the threat in the whirring vent stack fan.

The David Project was killed, right then and there.

No, I would not want a hunter killer bot near me. Especially airborne.

They are putting collective pitch on quads now. Still in the lab, because the programning is a bitch.
Not quite, they got em and people are flying them.

How come the Miltary hasnt made full size versions of these that can carry a crew?
That's amazing

Got a link? I want to read that shit!

Did you notice the "russian" look back as the drone was flying through the mock room window? That would be more talent than this ridiculous clip I saw on the "Mentalist" where dude was flying a heli through the house on memory alone from one room lol

If we could just defy gravity in the cockpit we could get a dude in there! But then no need for aerodynamics at all lol.

Its amazing seeing aerodynamics doing that, never fails to disappoint!

I forgot, I know we discussed before but I don't remember great detail....do you run a sim? I am running Phoenix and so far I reckon I have save a billion zillion federal reserve notes from vCrashing the big nitro T-Rex.

Doer, run a sim?

I was kinda wondering why they don't use the quads too....not battery powered but whatever powered ya know?
Like the Chinook has better lift my little quad has insane lift for the size/weight of it.

Also, I've had some motor failures in flight.....the rotor failed on the heli a few times, just spun out and crashed, main failed once it dropped like a rock, thankfully its light and landed in the grass; no damage.

teh quad has has a few motor failures, never more than one at a time though, in which case I can limp it home fairly easily....even spot land it.

Seems like it could be the A10 warthog of the rotor world no?

I use Realflight, it's got the best physics engine. Phoenix looks a bit better, but the models don't fly as realistically as they do in RF.

I want to get realflight too they have licenses for different models.

I need to try it again and compare to phoenix last time I tried it
Was a demo at the hobby shop and I couldn't fly kept crashing.
I could give it an honest review now lol could I use my spektrum tx on realflight?

I havePhoenix and it does hook to Spectrum via their special cable. Very cool. Need a hot graphics computer to get good frame rate,

But, I have spend hours at the indoor gym with my MQx. And I have spent hours outdoors with the Biggest Align monster copters.

It really helps. Slowing flying a copter around you at a set distance is something to master. Now do that nose in. :)

Yep, RF will work with a Spektrum, actually you will have 2 transmitters hooked up so 2 people can fly at same time with split screen. Also has a network feature so you can fly with a friend over the internet. My brother and I do that sometimes and have dog fights. If you put the damage engine on in RF it will actually let you do small damage to the plane and will fly differently depending on what happened, so I like to put my prop into his elevator, I can then land , but he cant fly very well without an elevator, he hates that maneuver.

A good pilot should be able to successfully land an airplane with only a single wing.

If you really want to see some top notch Heli action, go to IRCHA 2014 this summer. Best pilots in the world doing things with helis you wouldn't think were even physically possible for an object to move like that.

I love my Raptor G4 flybarless, big O.S. 91 HZR-c 2 stroke putting out about 4 HP in a 4400g package (9.7 lbs). Its so well balanced with a run out on the main shaft of only .0001 mm. get it in the air and you can just let go of the controls and it will sit in one place for quite a while before finally drifting off.

Nose in is pretty hard for people to learn, but nose in inverted is harder still.

99.9999% of first time pilots with no SIM experience will crash the helicopter within the first 1/2 second of flight. I liken heli flying as trying to balance 3 bowling balls on top of each other.

Are you kidding me?? I had 15 hrs in the real thing before I could stop hyperventilating, :)

But, what I really like about rotor craft, is auto-rotation. And the easiest to AUTO, by far is that 800 T-Rex, Align.

I love the full-auto in the R-22, but light rotor inertia, can make it very tricky.

But, to be steely eyed, we practice over the worst stuff. "Can make that clearing?" Wha???

"Engine, Engine, Engine." she shouts, and I bottom the collective to maintain rotor speed and down go, descending at no better than 4:1 glide. Tricky.

My favorite was over a lake surrounded by trees and no shore. Of course, she had maneuvered me there with other exercises... OK level at 500.

She - "The wind is behind us, you know?"
Me - (after a glance at compass and trees) "Confirmed."
She - "See that boulder field over there, on the other side, along the edge of the water?"
Me - (this is the only place with no trees, but the boulders are the size of cars!) "Wha??"
She - "Engine, Engine, Engine!"
Me - (gulp) :)

Try autoing inverted, then at the last second flip it over and land it .

Never got to that.

But I did find there is a real range, due to weight, if you can even auto rotate.

In fact, the smallest, in Phoenix will not. If I bottom the collective, like in the big boys, it drops like a rock and can't recover.
If I do nothing, it glides down and still have rotor speed to flare. The Big one will drop if you don't bottom collective.

And, of course, with the mid-size, I mid-set the collective. This special knowledge, of motor skill, alone is worth the price of the Sim.

Its all about Blade mass, the bigger and heavier they are, the easier the auto. Get some old school wooden blades instead of the carbon fiber ones. Makes practice a bit less sphincter crushing. Be careful with full throws done on the quick, you don't want a boom strike.

Doer

Yeah, a boom strike, with the blade is one of the coffin corners of R-22. Another is that the blade gets the canopy.

Then there is mast bumping, where you go over the top, like an airplane, when leveling out,and let the rotor system go low G.

That decouples the gyroscopics, and the mast is smashed apart. Tetter-totter rotorheads, like the Huey, have this problem.

Then there is vortex ring, thru decent.

And maybe a couple of other ways to fall out of the sky. Oh yeah, rotor speed. Too low, like below 90%, not that low, and you can't recover, and cannot auto-rotate.

Fun and thrills a min.

I find that a quick throttle cut is a necessity to absolve oneself of the problem of a complete rebuild every crash.

Oh, no so serious, you can rebuild? :) Seriously, I have never flown a model for real, except for a hover with the big training legs on it.

Even then, my little Clone 250 size scares the crap out of me.
