they are fine right now but soon they are going to need as stable environment as possible, even as seedlings they should have a gentle breeze to stimulate stem growth.. I would go for a wooden cabinet

If its too much keep looking, you will find something... The key to low dollar or free stuff is that you have to look around for a while. That cabinet would do good for a SOG grow or 3 to 4 plants at a time.

seedling roots grow straight down. once the first node appears though they will be tangled. seedling roots wont tangle because they dont grow that way

but as soon as you can move them, do it. because once the first node starts to appear, thats when you are going to get the roots growing outwards and they will tangle.

You also have way too many plants for those lights. 6 lights is enough for about 1 plant when using CFL's...

hps is the way to go, your absolutely right on that, Decide how big you want it to be and get your tools and some wood and build yourself a dresser/cabinet/whatever, it doesnt have to be perfect andthe best part is you can build/customize them to your exact specifications for growing. this site heres really good w/lights, especially their line of them that plug into a normal outlet, comes completely ready to go right out of the box after connecting a few simple things that takes second, and they have a remote ballast system, which means you can have the ballast wherever since the ballast and bulb dont both need to be together, the ballast has a cord that connects to the bulb. helps keep heat down. I highly recommend you get one.
