FAn LEAVES yes or no!!! triming LETS VOTE!!!

Thanks, but it looked like this...... And I had a few suggestions when it happened, was mostly to the older larger leaves midway up the stalk, and some calcium and foliar spraying with epsom kept it from getting worse.

I had that same problem but it was 2-3 spots max. I bought a gram instead of buying some veg nutes after my cotyledons fell off and that happened. Lucky i found my old nutes from 2005.

You are right.In my case my though,i lst and 12/12 sog most of my branches go up some even taller than the main cola but,eventually some leaves get so big they shade the smaller branches which i need to be growing up with the other colas,if i didn't cut the fan leaves off then those smaller branches wouldn't be as big as the rest.
 
Circumstantial for me, if they are buried a foot and half under the canopy and aren't receiving enough light I'll consider trimming them. If I can avoid cutting or trimming I generally try to, as any stress stunts growth, which increases time and I'm all about efficiency or maybe I'm just lazy.
 
i've been wondering this a lot , and have asked the RIU community myself . I've found out that 'fan leaves' are used in the beginning stages of the growth. When you plant starts budding its going to want those fan leaves for energy to fill in and grow the buds . At the budding stage your plant isn't using fan leaves to grow taller or wider anymore , strictly to just grow and fill in buds.
The leaves may not look like they're getting sun but they are .

my dogs chew the stalks to toothpicks, the rabbits eat the leaves, and the old soil goes in the veggy garden or flower beds....what waste? everybody ends up happy.
 
I have been only removing the lower fan leafs once every month . i have 2 plants that are about 3 months old and around 4 feet tall. as i defoliate i add two 42watt 6500k cfls for each plant where the large fan leaf was blocking light penetration. so i have a light for every 2 nodes and i turn the plants once a day. pruning i find does slightly slow vetical grothe but with the added light to the sides promote larger
