Dawkins simplistic? Look, he's a great writer. But a scientist has no empirical evidence for which to debate religion. It is simply an intellectual argument.

I find his philosophical take on life intriguing. A while back he held a seminar called "The Purpose of Purpose" which I attended.

He linked the development of the human concept of purpose and self-direction to evolutionary history and presented a very 'special" view of humanity in relation to the rest of the world in light of our unique ability to self-direct our purposes as a mechanism of adaptability and survival.

I would almost say he's making atheism into a beautiful faith. :D

That said, I do believe in God and think that he's missing the point on a lot of this stuff. Nevertheless, I learn much from his philosophical perspective... While I might criticize it for being overly rooted in the Western imperialist traditions of dominance and superiority.

I guess you have to come from that perspective to lash out at people's religions so heavily.
