Fast Marijuana Grow

What is a basic checklist off "needs to happen"s when trying to hit the basics so all is well for a speedy grow? You'd like a better idea of what I mean you ask?, for instance you want to hit a foot tall minimum before flowering, you want so many series or layers of branches and nodes or whatnot or wait until 7 point leaves start.... etc, you get the idea. I would like to do a fast grow from seed for my first grow is about to come to an end. I've learned a lot and am very capable but I would like other input about things that your plant must do, need, or any requirments before I hit the next phase of the grow. My first grow I started with five plants in an 18gal rubbermaid using the worst medium ever, Miracle grow gardening soil and it does not drain well at all, and I started another round of seedlings after those were a few weeks. Well all of those original five turned out male but one of those seedlings I kept going for 6 months now(9th week of flower). My other two plants I have in flower now I seeded the last week of August and are also in their 9th week of flowering. I want my next grow to be perfectly timed or atleast have a speedy tempo, I will flower those bitches at a foot yeah know? Part of my question is if I do speed things up am I loosing too much and if so what are things or a checklist for my plants progress so I don't go too fast and end up with a bean pole and a handful of skinny buds.

Simple. You only need 3 things:

1. Quality genetics bread for a short flowering period with high yield
2. Lots of light with appropriate ventilation
3. Happy, healthy plants which are well fed and free from pests

You can't put it any simpler than that.
What's your grow space like? Do you have separate veg and flower areas? How much headroom do you have? How much does your strain stretch?
