1. We knew masks were needed, but due to the low stockpile of PPE, the pros agreed the best thing to do was to not recommend mask wearing until we got the supply chain in better shape. The fear was all the health care workers would cash out, and we would really be screwed then.

Myself, I think we should have been honest from the start, and ask the public to make diy mask. But after what happened to toilet paper, they probably did the right thing.

2. As we learned more from the data, he changed some of his recommendations. The main one was that he said in most corona viruses, asymptomatic spread was real low. When we learned it was higher in this one, he stated that. That's how science works.

At the time the WHO was saying masks aren’t necessary. Our scientists said the same thing here. Also, the shortage of masks made it necessary for health care workers.

The whole thing is just more ridiculousness from a most ridiculous administration.
