Feeding Schedule Question

Hey everyone,

Doing my first grow. Currently on week 4 of veg. I'm running a FFOF/Roots Orig soil mix. For nutes I'm doing:
1 tsp dyna gro foliage
1 tsp dyna gro pro-tekt
rotated with
1 tsp seawood extract
1/4 tsp dyna mag pro

I'm a "less is more" believer, and I'm running good nutritious soil, so that's why I'm thinking of rotating nutes. I was also considering adding the mag pro to the foliage/pro-tekt mix and just plain RO water the second Any suggestions?

No need for ANY nutes for at least 4 weeks the soil has enough nutes to last the 4/5 weeks.
Add nutes now its gonna be game over.
Only think about nutes after this time so all they need is the rite enviroment, water, lights and tlc to ensure a good growth

Good luck

Then stop acting like you're doing a hydroponics grow. You don't need all that shit for a soil grow if you properly prepare your soil. You don't need any nutrients at all until around week 5 and then it'll be one dose of nitrogen rich nutrients before you go flower.

I am on week 4. Just about to start week 5 of veg. So even using RO water I don't need any mag pro? Good thing I asked, I've only done one watering with foliage/pro-tekt.

Don't buy into all the hype on nutrients ....is there a visual problem with your plants that make you feel the need to add more food to it....also pics are always helpful for us to give good accurate advice .......I use regular ffof soil and I don't start adding any extra N for about 6 weeks ....and even then it's at quarter strength ......although I do add lime to my new ffof especially the last few years due to cal/mag deficiencies me and several other growers in my area have been having with that particular soil.......less is more and having to add is way better than having to try to take away .....

Best advice I ever got as a youngster,, was to keep a very detailed grow journal .....I suggest you do the same ((very detailed)) strains, food, etc etc etc .....it will help you from making certain mistakes twice and give you something to refer to later down the road as well ...GL

I've had my own personal grow journal. I've made a mistake or two and made notes of it (now I guess I'll add this to the mistake list). The plants have looked great and I didn't want to add nutrients at all in fear of burning but then I read with RO water you need to be careful with cal/mag. I topped the plants a week ago.

I read with RO water you need to be careful with cal/mag.
Stop reading.

It's a plant. It's actually a weed. It will grow. Don't overthink shit. Most people, I would estimate about 97%, post complete bullshit. It's worthless old wives tales for the most part.

I use RO exclusively. (I have a 5 stage RO/DI unit). The only thing you have to take into consideration with RO/DI is that it is 100% H2O. There is NOTHING else in it.

Plant in a 5 gallon pot with decent soil, add about 8 tablespoons of lime (a bag of it cost 5 bucks and will last you for a long, long time) and you can throw your cal/mag in the garbage. You'll not need it. Ever.

I spend a grand total in materials for a grow (I grow two plants once per year) of about 12 bucks. I usually have to buy a new bag of soil for each grow. That's it. I haven't bought nutrients in 4 years. ( I use Miracle Grow - regular formula I dose once with at the end of veg and tomato formula I use about 3 times during flower. Maybe 4.)

And the bag of lime I told you about.

That's it. That's all there is to it. I top them twice, and other than that leave them the hell alone other than watering when they need it...and ONLY when they need it. There is no schedule for that. Stick your finger in the soil. Is it dry? Water it. Is it moist? Don't.

People get into this thing and everybody thinks there's all this skill and magic formula and nutrients, nutrients, nutrients, blah, blah, blah.

Like I said, that's all I use man...that and my trusty 600 watt HPS/MH lamp. I net between 4 and 6 ounces per plant every time. My record: 8.6 ounces from one plant.

I do very, very little to them. They're weeds, man. In good soil, they'll grow damn near no matter what. The number one cause of every problem I've ever seen on this forum or any other is nutrient burn. People just read all the bullshit about nutrients and go all in with that shit.

Nutrients, in the end, is the number one cause of death of plants. People just think they're they answer to everything and that more is better.

They couldn't be more wrong.

Great post. Couldn't agree more. I have a 5-stage RO system as well. Perfect timing too because I'm going from 1 gallon to 5 gallon this weekend. I'll get the lime today.

I added the dyna grow foliage 2x the past week. Before that there was nothing for a month. I added about 3/4 tsp to a gallon and gave each plant about 1/4 a gallon of the mix. Hopefully I didn't do any damage.
