Fiber Pots, root problem?

Hey everyone, I'm new here but I've been reading a lot for my first grow. I thought I'd throw out my first question in hopes I can fix an issue before it becomes bad.

For my seedlings I bought Burpee Fiber Cells. I assume they are similar to peat pots. Recently I've read that they aren't the best choice because the roots have issues getting through (go figure it says on the pack "optimal root growth").

I've had my fiber pot in a larger pot for maybe a week now, probably earlier than I should have at 1 week old. I removed the very bottom of the fiber pot. My question is: should I just leave it because it has turned soft? or should I try and remove it? The section I removed was only about a 1"x1" square...

Thanks for any help.

Do what you can do to get that off. If its going to tear to many roots leave it. Yes the package does say for 'Optimal root growth'. They are assuming that you know contained roots will start to wrap around forming a small root ball, and that you know that is when to cut the netting off and replant it for optimal root growth. Cervantes recommend two transplants from seed or clone to final pot size, particularly for a soil grow. Contain the roots, transplant, contain the roots, transplant, strong early root development. I have pictures of this process to final pot size for the medium I am using posted in a journal, there is a link to it in my signature, ask any questions you like there if there is one. I used peat pellets for the seeds. VV

maybe we are thinking of different products. What I used was a fiber pot. They were very much like these. The directions say I should bury the pot instead of transplanting. If we are thinking of the same product then I'll definatly take your advice.

While I'm at it, I was going to pick up a Ph meter. I was wondering if the cheap ones are accurate? considering some are dirt cheap and some cost hundreds of dollars.
