Mongo, Although I truly do appreciate your concern, I think you're getting the wrong idea. I do not live in an apartment building or an apartment complex. I call my living situation an apartment, but in reality I live in a house that is divided into two parts, first and second floor. Our landlord is pretty legit. She stops by once a month or so to make sure we haven't completely destroyed the place, as long as I'm paying rent she's happy. I get the good ol "hey, how are you? Have a great day," and then don't see her for another month or two. My neighbors downstairs smoke more herb than I do, so I don't imagine them being concerned about the smell... Despite this, I am hoping to keep the odor to a minimum with a small grow box, larger than needed fan, and a carbon scrubber (mostly for the times I have visitors aka rents/inlaws over).
I have also taken into account the fact that my landlord could hypothetically key into my apartment while I am at work, but I have my grow box inside of my closet in my room.
I have a pad lock on my closet when I am gone. (That is where I keep my valuables
)
The closet has doors that allow good airflow, the whole doors are essentially downward slanted vents and there is no light escaping the grow box so there is no reason to be suspicious. The vent up to the attic is my only concern; however my landlord is a 45+ yr old woman that has no business climbing into an attic. She pays me to do most of the repairs anyhow, so if anyone will be going up there it will most likely be myself.
Overall, I have lived here for almost a year, and yes, the fact that I was living on someone else's property was the reason I took an 8 month hiatus from growing (I grew soil before), but I have gotten to the point that I am very comfortable with my situation and have no doubt that I can not only grow successfully, but also without causing any alarm.
After re-reading this post I can see how it would be taken the wrong way; therefore, I would like to re-iterate that I really am thankful that you're looking out for me, sounds like you have your head on a swivel and don't want to see people get busted.
I just wanted you to know that as long as that carbon scrubber works it's magic during the last and most stenchy part of flowering, I shouldn't have any problems.
Edit: Also, I don't live in the south... Humidity will not be a problem, especially now while it is winter. I haven't tested it out yet, but if anything I will have to buy a cheap walmart humidifier to keep the humidity up. I could most likely run the humidifier 24/7 in my bedroom (where the intake comes from), but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
