Looks like century grow systems son-t nav-t magnetic ballast?

If so I think century have like a 20year warranty on those ballasts.

Have you emailed them?

The capacitor is the white round thing. Don't wrap your ballast with anything, this will make it run hotter and cause part failure sooner. It has vents and needs to breath, if anything put a small fan on it to help keep temps down. The thing is a metal box and pretty well fire proofed on its own, what you should do to fire proof it is keep flammable stuff away from it. Don't leave it on wood or carpet, near curtains, anything like that. Get a clay, glass or ceramic tile or brick to sit it on.

I used to put my old magnetic ballasts in plastic storage containers. Not flimsy ones, nice thick ones. Drill a little hole for cords to come out and it's contained in there. Ballast didn't get hot enough to melt the plastic.

The best thing to do would be to get a ballast that's not shitty!
