first attempt 2x3x5 tent 400w

Hi, guys. This is my first attempt at a real grow. I have grown bag seeds before but never finished them out to flower. I have 4 autoflower strains in a 2x3x5 tent with a 400w mh right now. I will switch to hps at first signs of flower. I will be running them on a 20 on and 4 off schedule. 2 parts ocean forest and one part light warrior with some worm castings as well. Other than that I plan on watering with an organic tea (still pinning down all the ingredients i will be using). Only reason I am growing autos is because a friend gave them to me and I thought it would be good for my first attempt. I just planted the seeds today and I am waiting on them to pop. I will post pictures as soon as I have some babies. Any comments, advice, concerns, etc.. would be greatly appreciated.

Happy smokin

I am going to purchase an online fan and carbon filter but for the next week or two i am going to just leave my tent open. I hope this will be ok. Lol I am having issues figuring out how all of my ventilation is going to fit though. Just to let everyone know I am doing a la diva, a blue mammoth, a Hercules, and an afghan kush ryder. I plan on doing some lst or maybe a scrog. I know time is an issue with autos and training but anyone's input would be great

It's in my closet but i just leave the doors open and the ceiling fan on in my room all day. No biggie since nobody else lives with me

Good luck, I like to follow a 400w grow from the start, will hang around if you don't mind. I'm still a bit dubious about autos myself, but I've an open mind and am open to having my opinions rubbished. hope it goes well.

I hope I change your mind as well. I too am skeptical of the autoflower but I figure with free beans I cant go wrong. I hope to see better results than what I have seen from friends that have grown autos. My friend was only growing under cfls though so I dont think that coming out better than he did should be much of a problem.

So. It's only been one day since the beans went in the soil and already i have a problem. My timer wouldn't fire my lights on this morning so i have decided to switch to straight 24 hour light schedule until i can figure out this problem. This should be fine though with the autos I'd hope. Anyone's previous experience with this would be helpful. I am using a lumitek 400w ballast and just a six outlet timer power strip that i bought at home depot. I'm going it's the power strip but I'm worried it's the ballast so I guess leave it on for now

Don't get me wrong, I grew autos once but only 2 sprouted then it seemed to take almost as long as a regular grow, and the smoke at least was a good smoke, so you're right mate, as a first grow using your new tent itll give you a bit of leeway while you tune it in as far as temps , ventilation etc

That's good. Yeah I'm hoping that my beans sprout, however i do have 4 photo period seeds waiting for my second go around and i will probably only do two at a time with those so at the very least these won't be with a shit and ill try the other ones. I'm really just frustrated with my timer not firing on my lights this morning. I hope it's not my ballast.

happens to the best every once in a while, esp when like me you buy the cheap variety from the local supermarket, test it out by manually spinning the timer and see if it brings on the lights, if there is any problems buy another one, or take it back to the shop where you bought it, and if its a new one which came with the tent package, e mail the supplier and they'll mail you another one.

I bought the ballast tent and hood from a friend who has a much larger setup and these were spares never used. I think i may be out of luck and have to buy a new ballast if this one is bad. Has anyone had issues with a ballast not firing on every time but still working after finicking with it? Or does that pretty much mean it was my power strip timer?

You can train autos....topping them might not be as useful as for a photo-period
plant as there is no Veg period to work with....but you can train them to give better
light to lower branches.

I also started after watching friends try autos.

Take care,

Cool man. I know I'm a noob and have very minimal experience in this but I am definitely going to do some form of training whether it be lst or scrog I'm not sure yet but i have friends that grow photos and scrog but they only veg for 3 to 4 weeks do i didn't see how this would be any different considering these babies will have like 20 some days of veg before they kick into bloom anyway.

Yeah. I'm just gonna play this one by eye because i have heard that the seed to harvest estimates on autos can be somewhat subjective to the conditions on there harvest time.
