First attempt questions

This is my first attempt at doing this so comments, criticism, and suggestions are very welcome! I decided to go with the fill and drain method. I purchased a round planter from Home Depot and drilled two holes. One to fill and one to drain. The drain plug is 4 inches high so not to water my carpet, and the fill nozzle comes up about an inch.

Question: Because the inlet/drain plug is roughly an inch high this means that about an inch of water will be left in the planter. Is this too much standing water? (I'm going to try to add pictures) If it is too much water, does anyone have any ideas to remedy this using my current setup.

Question: I bought a PH/PPM monitor (Hanna 9814 Gro/Check monitor). The water that comes out of my faucet is roughly 7 Ph, and 100-130 in PPM. The FAQ states that I should be using 150-200 in the PPM scale for seedlings, and early clones. Am I correct that I should add this value to the baseline value to get the desired amount? (250-330 using my faucet water)

There are a number of differnt comicals you can use.
Potasum Silicate/Hydroxside/ and somethign else I can't think of right now.

I use Porasum Silicate as it is also good for roots.

PPMs: The total is the total.
So if you start at 100ppms and are aiming for 200ppms you can only add 100ppms to your water.
Also make sure you are using the right scale. Most poeple use the x700 Scale.
your water is pretty good, you should be fine. Remeber it is easy to cure an under feed than an over feed.

What sort of pump did you get? I will be building an Ebb and Flow next. :)
