I'm doing my first grow and my plan is to do a 4x4x4 room for vegging with 4 6500k cfl's and using 3 120mm fans...

For flowering im doing 6x6x6 room with 2 400w hid's,2 120mm fans, and an activated carbon filtration system.

Im doing 10 plants in each room

My question is...what store bought soil can i use, what is ideal ph, where should i mount the lights, and so on

Thank you

You can buy miracle grow soil just don't get the kind that says it holds more water(root rot) / shoot for between 6.0-6.5ph try to keep it a little acidic. For lights:
The cfls can he practically touching the tops but maximum distance should be <6 inches
The hids(probably hps right?) If it an open reflector keep em 24 in. But with cooltube or any heat shield maybe 16ish at most just hold the back of your hand at canopy height and if it feels hot move them farther away but the key is ventilation homie

I will have 2 120mm pushing out and 2pulling in......so as they grow keep them 24in? Plants Im supposed to grow get 5ft

Don't keep them 24in, that's too high, and it all depends on the size of your lamp. You could get an air-cooled 400w HPS about 6 inches from the tops safely.

You should mount the lights in the center of the room.

I'd advice you use conversion MH that work in your HPS ballast or HO T5 fluoros for vegging.

Can't advice on soil. Fox Farm Ocean Forest/Happy Frog is popular, roots organic is what my local hydro carries. Getchur self some yellow stick traps.

you are going to set up a 20 plant operation, and you wish to know proper ph.........
my advice is this.......don't do it. educate yourself to a higher knowledge base, and then you tell me........what proper ph is. not being a hard-ass, but knowledge is the greatest nutrient you'll ever give a plant.

I agree that a PH question is basic, but theres only so much learning you can do on the subject before you want to see what its like with practical knowledge. You can read how to grow, but is it ever going to make you as good as the people you're reading from? Surely there must be more to just reading then.

OP, look at a nutrient availability chart to have an idea at what PH, which nutrients are available. Because they're all available at different PH's. Theres a very tiny spot where it suits all of them, this is what you want, drifting a little above or below is acceptable to make sure you're getting all the nutrients available.

I have done plenty of research on ph an everything else. I just want to get peoples opinions.

seeds just sprouted and trying 8 out.....still waiting on my fans...decided to use 6 cfl's

im not an expert by any means yet, but if you have sprouts in the cups right now the lights are TOOO FAR AWAY, and the fact that they havnt even broke the plane of the top of the cup means that they are getting even less light (shadows FTL) raise your babies or bring down the glow!

if your doing soil i would go with Fox Farm Ocean Forest and mix it with Fox Farm Light Warrior works really good if ur not to comfortable with adding your own nutrients....

They look nice, how many days old are they? I have a few seeds that I started on Jan 27, they are smaller then that but I'm using a 400W MH. I'm not an expert by any means but I know that if you want the best then you should get a Metal Halide light for veg and an HPS is best for flowering. However, while they are so small it's a little too intense for the little seedlings so really a CFL could be the best starting option. In my opinion you're going to have to increase the amount light of when they get a little bigger, I would just go for the best and get a MH.
