First Closet Grow...NL with 600w HPS+ 4 CFL's

If I top now, Won't they just continue to grow like fuck anyway and still be tall as hell in a few weeks?? Would it be best to wait a while longer? Or I heard that toppin em will promote lower growth which I could do with, cuz the CFLs have trouble penetrating. I'll get some pics up asap.

Yea I guess you would want to wait a while. A few days before flower maybe.

Don't get me wrong, all the other sites on all the plants are doing really well and growing like fuck, and there is still growth around the burnt top colas where they didn't touch the light, but obviously it was the absolute tops that caught so they haven't gotten much taller.

Mate dont worry people crown buds on purpose.... Its almost like topping your plant. Basically it makes all the bud growth below where you crown get a lot fatter and more plump also giving it the look of a crown on the top! So burning it at worst will give you a crowned plant and if your lucky it will carry on growing around the burn...

Topping will make the bottom of the plant below the TOP go fuckin crazy! You will get massive growth on the lower branches. You can TOP any time after the 4th node as long as they arent in flower yet its not advisable once you have started the flowering process... As for height for the first 3 or 4 days this will stop increasing completely, then it will resume as normal albeit a lot slower. It causes the plant to bush out rather than stretch upwards! I swear by it! Would never look back. You will definately get much lower growth much much more...

You MUST NOT do it untill you have at least one set of full leaves! if you need help for what to do give me a shout ill tell you exactly what ya need! im trying to put more pics up today so if i can get it too work you will see the difference between a FIM'd plant and a standard one.

actually nibbz, I referred to that pm u sent me previously. Checked out the link on toppin and FIMmin and am gonna give it a go shortly. Looking at the growth on both, I reckon I can FIM without too much problem. There's just the right amount of growth starting to get at least 4 I reckon. Wish me luck. Not sure about pics today, just been dumped with a hundred million other things to do!!

As promised, here's a few pics of the NL. They aren't very good at all and some are out of focus but I've had no time and thought I should put summat up so jus snappped em quickly whilst they were still in the closet. You can see the burnt tips on a couple of the colas altho the pics don't show this brilliantly.

I also topped and FIM'd the sensi earlier. At least, I tried to FIM one lol. We'll see in a couple days whether it worked or if i just topped em both.

Nice...very nice. Yea I'll be interested to follow how your topping goes. If you keep the light away from the bleached leaves for a while they should turn green again in a few days. I find the scars from under/over nute usually are permanent (even so-called "mobile" nutes) but the light bleaching can recover completely. And I don't want to get you too excited but you're looking at a very nice yield judging from the canopy shots of your flowering plants. Forget about the burned colas, they will only be a small part of the overall harvest.

Yea me too mared. I just really need to limit the height a bit really, so fiongers crossed they bush a little bit more at the bottom now. The attempted FIM I think has worked. I know it's early days, but there's the 2 new branches either side which are meant to become the new main top colas, and the new growth which I snipped about 75% off seems to be shooting 2 more also. So potentially 4 new colas. We'll see eh. Will just be nice to know the difference at the end really.

And don't go teasing me with comments like that mared!!! lol. I'm gettin excited enough now I can see alot of bud growing.

In your opinion mared, roughly how long do I have left?? I never fully understand this 7-8 week flowering thing. Is that from the point at which they finally show their sex? the point at which you switch them to 12/12? Fuck knows! Knowing what you do about your previous grows, could ya give a guesstimate?? I reckon another 5-6 weeks but I'm hoping for less.

Yea I don't put any faith in the "recommended" flower times you see published for different strains. Deciding when to chop is still a tough decision for me too so I can't really tell you for sure but usually when you have pistils begin to change color and green bud material start to swell up around them that is the halfway point. Well maybe just before. The 3/7 point LOL.

The strangest thing has happened. The two sensi have started to flower. I was ill earlier in the week and slept in the same room as em but kept the light on in the closet 24hr still. With the exception of about 2 hours. Only reason was cuz I needed the plug to use my asthma machine. Used it twice, so the lights were off on 2 seperate occasions for about 45mins each time. well,... one has started shooting hair out at all the nodes, and the other looks like it's male. Definite growths at the nodes but no sign of hair at all. I've not owned a male yet so I'm not 100% but it seems to be the most likely.

So I've decided to just run with it and switch em to 12/12. Changed the bulbs over to the 2700k bulbs and my logic is, that if 1 IS male, the other will get 4 30watt CFL's above it (my flower bulbs are slightly higher watt than the 6500k ones I used to veg). I know this technically ain't really enough light for tight buds, and I could leave em on 24hr light but I can't figure out why they started to flower in the first place. surely 45mins of dark on 2 seperate occasions wouldn't induce it would it?? And my NL took weeks to show after switching them, so I can't imagine the dark periods (only around 2 nights ago) would do it.

So I'm wondering if they auto-flowered or summat. Checked the strain details on Sensi Seed Bank website again and it don't say they are autoflower. Any ideas?

I'm not worried at all tho. I'm quite happy in fact. It means I'll have a diff strain to try not long after the NL is finished and I'll also get to experience exactly how shit CFL's are to flower with. If they are shit that is. I've just read mixed reviews. They'll get a few weeks of the 600w at the end of flowering which (hopefully!) will beef the buds up a bit if they are looking too fluffy.

So watch this space! I'll prob get some decent pics up either tomorrow afternoon or Saturday of both the NL and the Sensi Skunk. NL is looking fuckin sweeeeet now! buds are beginning to grow into each other on a couple of plants, and my burnt tops have recovered and grown taller. It's fuckin STINKIN too! Really noticed it this week.

When you say "started to flower" do you mean they have preflowers at the nodes? Because that is totally normal to happen in veg once the plant is mature, usually at about 3-4 weeks in age. Unless you're talking about clones. They have preflowers right out of the gate. And a good friend of mine gave me an early Christmas present. Some samples of his best strains. One is NL. You wanna see pics?

Na one of them is definitely startin to flower. There's several white hairs comin out of bits either side of the pistols in several places around the plant. Not from the pistols themselves. Looks the same as the NL did. The new growth is lookin tighter as well. The other has quite large growths either side of the pistols. I've not had a male yet but I reckon it's prob a set of balls lol.

Post the pics tho mate. I'd like to have a look.

You think flowerin with the 4 CFL's for the first 5 weeks will make my bud shit? not got much choice tho with my small flowerin closet lol.

yeah mate as mared said they show signs of sex soon as they are old enough sometimes... No idea how they managed to flower with just 45 mins of dark that aint sposed to happen at all lol

OK so my buddy gave me these four samples. The letters stand for Northern Lights, Dead-On-Arrival, BlackBerry Widow, and AK-47(obviously).



I only just got these so I made sure the first one I tried was the NL just for you, guy. Let me say that it blows anything I have grown so far out of the water. It has that mothball aroma and taste that only the finest of dank can have. Just all around lovely smoke that widens the grin on your face with every puff. I definitely want to add this to my garden ASAP.

Mmmmmmm.... I really can't wait man! Looks like some good bud. So the NL is some of the best stuff you've smoked?? How is it compared to the other bags u got there?

I've finished work for the day now so I'm gonna get all the plants out shortly and get some good pics.

NL is definitely one of the best tokes I've ever had. And I'm not saying this just because you're growing it, honest, but me and a buddy (not the same one who gave me the stuff) each packed a bowl of all 4 varieties yesterday and hands down we both liked the NL the best. That's judging on taste and smell only of course because we smoked them all back to back so can't tell which one got me highest. The DOA was very good too. But NL reminds me a lot of my favorite smoke ever. Some shit I got in Spanish Harlem in NYC. It was pure white and they called it some spanish name and it got me higher than any weed I've smoked ever. But it had that same mothball, musty granny's attic taste as the NL so yea, no BS I will be getting NL for my garden some day.

Nice!! Thats put an almighty grin on my face mared! I've just taken a load of pics. Over 30 I think. I'm nippin out to get the missus but check back in an hr or 2 and i'll have em all uploaded.
