first cuttings -- just put in glass of water?

I heard that for my first cuttings, just to determine the sex of my mothers, that I can just take the cutting and put it in a glass of water like you would a flower, put it under 12/12, and it will stay alive just long enough to show sex... does anyone else do this method? it sounds perfect to me, I just wanna know before I go ahead and possibly waste a week or two and a cutting!

thanks

Yes, this will work, done it myself many times, but is it faster than just waiting for preflowers with most strains, esp. indicas? That depends on the plants. Best you can do is give it a shot and learn from experience.

You've got a sativa dom than this will usually be faster than waiting for preflowers.

Waste a cutting, lol. I could cover my entire state with the discarded cuttings in my career. You'll get over it. :)

lol thanks, I can't wait to determine the sex on these girls.. they're all looking very healthy and they all look promising.. I'll hopefully have a camera soon so I can snap some pics, it's a cross of a really bomb bagseed that me and my buddy have been growing for a few years, very potent for outdoor bagseed, and White Widow... it's more of the bagseed because from what I hear when you cross breed, they take on more of the male, and it was a female white widow that got pollenated by the bagseed... anywho, should make for some killer bud!

I take cuttings, slice at 45 degree angle from main stem, gently slice first layer on one side of the cuttings stem, dip in water to remove any air trapped inside the stem as that will kill your cutting! Next I dip the cutting in some rooting hormone then place in a cup of water and use plastic wrap to hold the cutting down into the cup. also remember to foliar spray your plants cus until the cuttings grow roots their leaves are the only way the plants can feed!

i always root, veg for a week, then flower to determine sex.

rid the males keep the females, then after my cuttings reach about 8"-10" i take more cuttings to keep the rotation going
