First Grow...advice appreciated...schwag seeds under 400w hps

Hey everyone I am new to this site and to growing. This will be my first grow so i figured I should start a journal so I can get some advice as I go from all you expirenced growers out there. Please feel free to post any comments or suggestions you may have as any help I can get will be much appreciated.

So here's the low down....

I starting germinating 3 bag seeds I got from some really crappy schwag (brown brick) that I had last year that I used to make some honey hash. They have all just cracked the shell so I dropped each in a 16 oz party cup. Im hoping for 1 or 2 females as this is all I have room for. I figured I'd just start with these seeds (as I've seen bag seeds turn out great in some other journals) and if I do good this grow then I will buy some bomb beans for next time around so I know what my genetics will be.

I am using Happy Frog soil 75% and MG Perlite 25% to start. I might switch this up for something else when I transplant them into some 2 gallon pots that I have but we will see. I know many of you might suggest that I use 3 gallon pots but I will only be veging for a short period to keep these small (2-3ft), hope these will be indica dom but who knows. Also I have not picked up any nutes yet as I know this soil can last me a couple weeks and maybe a couple more after transplant, but I plan on picking up some GH FloraNova Grow and Bloom as well as koolbloom in the next few weeks.

I am using a 400w HPS system that I got from htg. Nothing special just their maxwing reflector and their bulb which is supposed to emit 55,000 lumens instead of the usual 50,000.

I will be doing 18/6 light cycle for about 3, maybe 4 weeks depending on size (looking to flower at about 1 foot as I hear they can double or triple after this) and then I will switch to 12/12.

I will post some pics of the setup I have once they break the surface...Hopefully tomorrow. And then I will be posting pics and updates often (once to twice a week).

Nice to meet ya! Is this a grow cab, grow closet, grow tent, etc? I too am in my first grow from bagseed, although im doing DWC. I'll bet you can taste the buds already ^_^

Thats what i thought too until I checked out some schwag grow journals that turned into some dank. Check out the pics from this dudes schwag grow.

i wouldnt call that dank.... i bet it still taste like mids with a mids high!!

Thanks for stopping in...and nice to meet you also. This is going to be a closet grow...maybe with a scrog but prolly not. I'll have pics of the setup posted later today. Good luck with your grow...wish I had the knowledge to do a DWC. Might do some research on how to do that for my next one.

So here is the setup...ballast outside of closet, light 19" above new sprouts, a temp probe 3" above the soil and a fan blowing cool air from the bedroom into closet.

Dont mind the other plants in the closet they are tomatoes and peppers for my wife lol. My babies are in the two cups in the middle. One broke the surface this morning and I'm hoping the other will very shortly here.

Temp holds steady at 79-80 when a/c is on and when it kicks off it hold steady at 83.3 (for about 10 min every few hours then back down to 80). I know that this is a little warmer than it should be but Im waiting to get paid so I can order an aircooled hood and just have to make due for now.

Just to update the other plant broke the surface this afternoon and so did another one so now I have 3 plants under the light. Hoping for 1 or 2 females.

Sorry I havent kept up with this so far but her'es another update before I post pics tomorrow.

I left all 3 plants in the 16oz cups for 3 weeks and started doing a little lst to 2 of the plants. After 2 weeks some lower leaves started turning yellow in a weird way and after some research found they needed some magnesium.

I fed them two 1/2 doses of flora nova grow, 2 waterings in a row and then once with just distilled water before I transplanted them into 2 gallon pots with happy frog soil and 33% perilite.

After being transplanted for a full week (which was 5 days ago) I switched them to 12/12 as I have limited space.

I will start floranova bloom in another week or once they tell me they need nutes. Also they are still to show sex so I have my fingers crossed.

Here the pic update. they are 31 days old today.

FYI.

There is no such thing as "shwag seeds" or weed. ALL FEMALE MJ plants are ALWAYS dank.

Weed only becomes, "shwag, brick, middies" when it mates with a male.

All those seeds you find in dirt weed all have the potential to be dank females, no such thing as a shwag seed. I repeat all untouched female plants are dank regardless where the seed came from.

Finally someone thats not putting me down for this PRACTICE grow!! Which if it goes well I just got my order from attitude so next round will be 5 fem easy ryder, 1 fem onyx, and 1 fem himalayan blue.

I have a question...They still aren't showing sex and have been in flower for 5 days...is this normal?

Yea, usually 1-2 weeks into flower you'll see sex.

Noticed these on the tallest plant today. Are these male preflowers?

anyone??? I need to know so I can kill it if they are male preflowers.

k, thanks man. gonna go chop it down then. Still hoping the other 2 will be females. If the other two arent both fem then Im just gonna chop em all and plant these fem beans I got from attitude.

i feels ur pain, im on my first grow right now.. first one ended up being male.. 2nd 2 were female tho.. i hope you have just as good of luck.
Side note: 1 of my females is some good genetics, the other is bagseed.. and it REALLY shows. Much more resilient to stress and looking better already.

You have a journal I can check out sippin? I'd like to see some side by side of yours.

This was kinda my thinking on this grow... if I can get these plant to around 8-10 weeks old and they are still really healthy, then at least I know I can grow these seeds I got from attitude to be really dank since they are auto flower and are done in 8-10 weeks from seed. I dont know if that sounds stupid to other people but thats kinda where my mind is at.

But at the same time if the reamining 2 plants aren't both female I was thinking about killing them all because I have a whole new setup that I ordered today (tent,booster fan, inline fan, and a speed controller, and then a air cooled hood that's just sitting in my room) and I wont want to wait to use it...or wont want to use a whole tent on just 1 or 2 plants.

What everyone think? I'll update with pics tomorrow durring lights on.
