First Grow, Bag Seed, Top Soil, CFL and Fluor tube, Wanting to Flower

Hey all, so after two failed attempts at writing out my whole log (lost my first one from expired login or somethin? And the second from closing the wrong tab

) I'm going to have to keep it brief for now. I'll only be showing the current stage as of midnight last night, and I'll upload the earlier stages later.

Anyways, here's the details:
Grown from Bagseed, 5 Plants with a 6th seed thrown in from a mids bag that germinated on it's own through the soil!
Medium: Plain top soil. Not the best option, I know, but it's worked wonderfully.
Lights: 5 23w CFLs, 2 48" Fluorescent tubes.
Fan on low setting, growing in a friends basement.
24 hour lighting.

4 have grown to about equal size with one behind the rest, which I think had fall over a few times from being buried too high and from poor lighting/stretching.

So we started with these long/stretched out sprouts (poor sun-lighting initially.)

Tell me what you guys think for my first grow! Definitely want to start flowering within the next few days to keep things small, though half of whatever females turnout might be transferred out into the yard.

I've been blown away by their progress being a first timer. It's funny, I remember when they had like a 2 diameter span on the leaves I was so excited, and now they're so much bigger in no time at all since I've upgraded lighting. It's amazing to watch, I'm impressed every day. They're reallyyy starting to smell so good too. Hard to believe I still have so long to wait (not really, but it feels like it eh?) though the weeks up until now seem to have passed quickly looking back.

Here's all the pictures I have leading up to where I am at. As you can see, sometime after the 29th when they were moved to the real indoors in the basement, they really started to shoot up with the better conditions and lighting.

Hey guys,. So I took our two biggest plants from the group and started them on a 24 hour dark period, to be followed with the usual 12/12. Does it look like a good time to start that? I expect them to stretch quite a bit, so I want to keep it small/medium size because of the fluorescent lighting. I also recently came across a few threads on people growing on 12/12 from start to finish though, so I suppose I really can't do much damage with the change in light cycles as long as I don't revert back, yeah?

Also, I think I'm pretty sure now I'm going to put the other 3, at least 2 of them, out in the yard to continue through the summer/fall, so I can get some buds of my indoor plants in about 8 weeks, then collect the rest later in the year when I expect I'll be needing some more bud anyways ;)
My question is, how do you think the plants will react to the environment change? Going from 24 hour lighting to what, 15-17 at the most now? Do you think this will shock the plants too much and kill them, or just stunt growth for a short period? I guess its hard to say since all plants will react differently, but does anybody have experience doing so? I figure since one is in a small plastic container, I can just cut away the container and place the cube of soil right in the ground. Would this reduce shock by maintaining the same medium? Thanks for any responses, wish me luck!

P.S... how much do your guys' plants smell during veg? I know these 5, with the fan, have started stinking up the whole basement already! Though I don't mind the least :)

EDIT: Then again, I doubt I'll be changing the medium for any of these plants this far a long. I can clearly see through the plastic container roots are developing through the whole space! Wonderful!
