First Grow (CFL) - Slow Growing :(

Hey all,

I started growing some 'Early Special' seeds about 5-6 weeks ago now, purchased from Nirvana seeds, i have been putting them outside on the nice hot days and keeping them inside in a foiled out box under two 20w (equiv to 100w) CFL bulbs, on the cold days.

I have been regularly giving them water and on occasion some miracle grow plant food but they seemed to have slowed down considerably.

At first they seemed to grow rapidly, however now they get a new leaf every 4-5 days or so. Im thinking something must be wrong if people on here are showing pictures of plants the same size as mine and saying they'v been growing for 1 week.... Iv been growing for about 6. I have included some pictures.

Also, one of my plants started growing funny as you will see with about 3 messed up leaves.

Finally, has anyone here grew Early Special before? as it does say on the Nirvana site that they start flowering when given 24 hours of light (as i have) and they have started growing leaves from the intersections. Is this flowering? Also any tips on male and female would be appreciated.

How can i speed them up?

Thanks in Advance,

When you grow under CFL's it takes longer for the plant to do it's thing. You are probably confusing the plant taking it inside and out.

Also 2 20 watt CFL bulbs aren't going to do a very good job for you, plus look at how you have the bulb, away from the plant at it's side. Needs to be closer and above it.

Some of the leaves look deformed, is something eating them or did you get a plant with bad genetics ? Bad genetics will affect how it grows also.

stop changing it from inside to outside,yr probobly stressing it out by changing its light all the time keep it inside all the time,,just get more cfls like double what u got,,theyl grow better.and take the tin foil out of yr box it attracts heat,,also keep the cfls under an inch away from the tops,,,like almost touching without touching as close as u possible can thatl help a lot

ah right okay, il keep it inside from now on, i have got one of those 250w CFL's here but am awaiting the fitting for it so il get it under that when that arrives. I do not know about the leaves, nothing has eaten it it turned out like that.... all i know is its early special.

the white stuff aint plant food...its pearlite...no nutes in that...get rid of the foil, flat white paint reflects more light than that...while you are at the garbage can you might as well drop the miracle grow in there as well to save you another trip...what kind of soil are you using?you might have nute lock-out...some soils have plenty of nutes to carry you through the first month with no feeding and some barely have any...set some water out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evap and flush the soil...check the run-off water and see what the ph is...how often are you watering them?
better to underfeed and under water than over feed and over water
add some more lights and quit taking them in and outside...you have possibly shocked them
just my 2 cents worth

Im a novice myslef but based on what ive seen in the grow journals here that plant does look a little frail for its age...Try using a fan on it to stengthen its stalk but i wouldnt blow directly on to it just in the general vicinity from a distance maybe. And i didnt see any ventilation in your setup, could that be the issue? Im a newbie myself but i could make some suggestions for ya, and im pretty sure a fan wouldnt hurt the plant.

I DO GOT A QUESTION THO...

When should i start using nutrients???
