Ok so this is my first grow ever and im convinced it is going to go terribly wrong. I am using seeds from a bag of regs so im not losing anything if they don't do well,
after germinating my seeds i put them in a foam cup with back yard dirt in it( i poked some holes in the bottom) i have them under two incandescent light bulbs in my closet so i won't get caught. so far the only fertilizer i have used is a 16/1 ratio of water and urine. i've had them on an 18/6 lighting schedule.

Despite all of the terrible conditions the things are actually growing.
I was wondering if there were any household items i could use to fertilize my plants besides water and urine.

Note: any tips are helpful as you can see i know nothing.
Im not looking to spend much until i sort of know what im doing

ive read in multiple places that if diluted enough it is a good fertalizer. lol should i just throw it out and start over?

Must be nice, every time your plants need some nutes you just drink a lot and use your plant as the toilet. very resourceful.

it's not like im just unzipping and pissing all over them it's a 16/1 ratio of water to urine, so it's mostly water. plus urine is an excellent source of nitrogen and potassium.

if you want my opinion then here goes:

I would spend the 20 bucks or so to get some real nutes... Order from any website or if need be, miracle grow! You will come to find it requires a lot of work growing and I would hate for you to waste your time by using that method!!

If you are gonna take the risk, why not ensure its going to be worth your time?

Dude, you need to stop what you are doing and do some research. Don't use piss! First of all everything you are doing is wrong... You need some sterilized potting soil, and some white florescent lites to veg them, then when you flower you'll need a 400w high pressure... sodium light and some gallon sized pots to start out in.

Incandescents don't emit the right spectrum of color to grow anything.

Piss is high in sodium and it is NASTY! why use piss when there so many other things out there! sorry dude its just gross.

The backyard dirt is a no no... It has bugs, fungus, all kinds of shit you don't want indoors. If its all you have, then spread it thin on a cookie sheet and bake it @ 350 degrees F for about like 45 mins. It will sterlize the dirt.

thanks, ill throw out this batch and spend a little money on some soil, nutrients, lights and pots. does this cover the basics?

and you should get some ventilation, at minimum a passive intake (a hole, no fan) and an exhaust. You can use a cheapo computer fan by wiring it up to a 12volt ac adapter. Also, you will need to make your closet reflective with either dull side of aluminum foil, white paint (recommended), mylar, or poly wrapping (shiny Christmas wrapping) If its already white then your set. a LITTLE money wont do it. heres just a rough list of the prices on things u will need. soil-at least $10-15
nutes-30+
lights-150+
pots-10
ventilation-125+
meters-25
thermometors and hygrometer-10
Thats just off the top of my head, you will probly need alot more stuff too. your lookin at 365 right there. and thats if you want like middle of the road quality equipment. Also why do you think people get pissed when dogs piss in their yards? ever peed outside in the same spot for a while? notice that grass dying? think about it.

IMO cheapo computer fans dont work well. especially for venting an area that will house more and 1 plant. also aluminum foil is a big no no, creates hotspots in your grow and can burn your plants. and shiny christmas wrapping is mylar.

there is a vent right about where i'm growing so i could tunnel it down for ventilation, would this work?
as far as bulbs i know i need a high pressure sodium light for flowering but what type/wattage of bulb should i use for veg?

I have no way to visualize what kinda venting system your talking. what are the demensions of your room. I have 1200 watts of hps strictly for flowering and a 250 metal halide that i use for vegging. works great can easily start 16 plants under it and grow the up to 2 weeks. but u could use cfl's for veg. MH is mighty superior IMO. And thanks 420, I try to not be right, but it just kinda works out that way! LOL

As the poster mentioned: he diluted his urine. Urine is high in nitrates--incidentally, it is the first number also when talking about fertilizer contents.

If you have a dog and it pisses in the same area for a while, you will notice initially the urine kills the grass (just as a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content would if applied to vigorously); however, after the urine is diluted, it becomes a very good fertilizer. You might notice that after the dog pisses, about 2 weeks later there is a burn mark with very tall grass ringing it.

My point is, urine wouldn't make a horrible fertilizer if diluted. Not to mention it is sterile. Although, it is pretty much horrifyingly disgusting and I wouldn't even consider it; it's not far off scientifically/practically.
