And now onto something not so sexy. The malody I mentioned earlier which seems to be affecting the lower, older leaves, particularly of Plant 2, and to a lesser extent, Plant 1. I was hoping someone could tell me if there is cause for concern and if so what I am doing wrong and what can be done to remedy the situation.

To describe it in words, a couple of the lower leaves seem to have lost that intense green colouration and have begun to crack and develop patches of a brownish colour. These patches look a bit as if some impure water had been spilt on them and then dried to leave a residue on the leaf. I am not actually concerned about the purity of my water but I suspected that maybe a bit of water had been spilt on the leaves during watering and damaged them somehow? Is there any sense to this? Did I miss some rule about keeping the water off your leaves?

Or maybe that's just what happens to old leaves? I've heard it's good to trim the bottom third of your plant so maybe it's time to do that? Or any other suggestions you'd have I'd really appreciate. Here's the problem in pictures:

Plant 2 - 26 days from beginning germination in soil:

I think I'll post this somewhere else too that's maybe more relevent. Thanks for your in put.
Idiots right, lol, leaves shouldnt touch the dirt. But in relation to the water on the leaves comment. Water droplets on leaves make a magnifying glass and will burn them with direct light.

Just looked over your thread. Are the plants affected with the dry leaves the ones closest to the light? If so you may want to raise it a bit. Good luck, everything looks great man.

No it was the bottom leaves only. I believe it was a nitrogen deficiency. I have fertilised them now with some Miracle Gro All Purpose Soluble Plant Feed and they don't seem to be getting worse. I also gave the younger plants some and they have shown no symptoms :-) Thanks for your input.

But seeing as you have mentioned lamp burn, I have since suffered from some. I'll get to that in a min, first an older update is on its way...

Pictures in this post are from New Years Eve, 31st Dec 2012. I was going away for three days although someone else was there to care for them. So flush 1 is 36 days from germination, while in flush 2: Plant 4 is appox. 21 days, Plant 5 approx. 20 days and Plant 6 approx. 18 days.

Around now was when I switched my Dual Spectrum HPS bulb for a standard (Red Spectrum) one to provide more optimum lighting for my flowering plants. I started a thread about it before but got no replies.

So first the good...

Flush 1 - Easy Ryders, Unknown plant numbers, 36 days from germination:

Flush 2 - Plant 1 or 2, approx. 20/21 days from germination:

Now the not so good. Same date showing what I believe was a nitrogen or other nutrient deficiency...

Flush 1:

Plant 1 - Easy Ryder - 36 days from germination:

Plant 3 - As above:

Flush 2:

Plant 6 - Easy Ryder - approx. 18 days from germination:

As you can see Plant 6 is clearly stunted and yellowing for some reason or another. I think I may have been under-watering it as I didn't realise at the time that the soil should always be moist for seedlings. It may have also been suffering from a deficiency.

And back up to date. Pictures in this post are from this morning. So as I mentioned, on NYE I went away for 3 days. When I came back the plants had shot up quite a bit and Plant 2 in particular had gotten awfully close to the light. At this stage it was showing no signs of burning so I put my had under the light level with top of the plant and decided that the heat wasn't too hot for my hand. Based on the often quoted rule that if it's too hot for your hand it's too hot for your plant and the fact it seemed to be looking fine I decided to leave it for now and see how it looked in the morning. That turned out to be a mistake. The next day Plant 2 had become fairly fried as you'll see below. Plant 1 also had minor burns. I have since raised the light and also put some things beneath the shorter plants to make sure they don't miss out on the light.

In more positive news after a bit of nuting with Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant Soluble Plant Feed the yellowing from the bottom up seems to have stopped or at least slowed down. I've also started using some Bio Bloom which is an organic liquid plant feed optimised for flowering. I've fed plants from Flush 2 also to make sure they don't suffer from the same problems and this seems to have worked. Plant 6 which was stunted and yellowing seems to be recovering as well. I guess we'll see if autoflowers bloom based on time or maturity, I hope the later.

Another observation is that Plants 4 & 5 (Flush 2) have gotten very tall. Perhaps it's because I've fed them earlier and so they're able to grow taller than Flush 1 were. I fear however that they could be responding to me switching my bulb from Dual-Spectrum to standard HPS (primarily red spectrum). Could it be that they are not getting the light they want from this bulb and are therefore stretching for more? They have already begun to flower however so I'd have thought they'd enjoy the redder light. They are also leaning. I have now hung the lamp at an angle to avoid burning their tops or taking the light too far away from the shorter plants. I have also shuffled the plants around a fair bit to try and optimise the set-up. Research on whether or not this is sensible has proved inconclusive with some claiming that it will stress your plants and others saying that this there is no evidence that it stresses plants and it could prove beneficial. Here's a complete grow room shot:

Back Left - Plant 5, Front Left - Plant 4, Back Centre - Plant 3, Front Centre - Plant 1, Back Right - Plant 2. Front Right - Plant 6.

My next post will show them in my standard format (same morning)...

Flush 1:

Plant 1 - Easy Ryder - 47 days from beginning germination in soil:

Plant 2 - As Plant 1, but also showing some lamp burn:

Lower Bud also showing light burn, despite being much further from the light? Or is this from over nute?

Plant 3 - As Plant 1:

Flush 2:

Plant 4 - Diesel Auto, Approx. 32 days from germination in paper towel (Plant 5 behind):

Plant 5 - Easy Ryder, Approx 31 days from germination in paper towel:

No specific Photos. Looking pretty similar to Plant 4, just slightly taller.

Plant 6 - Easy Ryder, Approx 29 days from germination in paper towel:

Finally looking healthy but way behind!

And finally some unknown buds from Flush 1. I think they are from Plant 3:

Some other stuff I forgot to mention. The weed (not cannabis) in the pot of Plant 5 that I mentioned at the end of Page 1 came back. It was hiding behind the cannabis so it got pretty big before I noticed it. I ripped it out but it didn't pull the roots up and now that the cannabis plant's roots will have spread I don't want to go digging around to get it all out... so not really sure what to do about that. I've also had a few more weeds come up including one which I've left because it looked like it could be cannabis, maybe one of the lost seeds! I think it's probably a nettle though. It's coming out of one of the drainage holes at bottom of the pot and is tiny at the moment so shouldn't cause much harm. I'll rip it out soon.

I grew pot in some pots and got weeds in my weed :weed:

Plant 6, the stunted one, has an infestation of bugs in the soil. They're about 2mm long each and blackish. No idea what they are or if they're harming the plant. I haven't noticed them in any other pots yet, maybe they favour the clay? Perhaps they're why it's going so slowly...

Do I have shit compost or what? Come to think of it, perhaps that's why I got a nute deficiency so early on. Uhhh, just checked Amazon reviews on the stuff... 7 out of 7 people gave it the bottom 1 star rating! What The Fuck, I thought Levington was a respected brand!?

NOTE TO ALL, DO NOT USE LEVINGTON MULTI PURPOSE COMPOST!!!

Hopefully that'll come up when you Google the stuff...

Anyway the last thing I wanted to mention was the browning tips of my leaves. It seems to be happening to the last 2-3mm of almost every leaf on every plant except Plant 6. I this normal? Could it be the first signs of over-feeding? Any other suggestions? Maybe that's Levington's fault too!

Well If you plan on starting one I pretty much chose the cheapest of each item I wanted on ebay and bought them. So far it has worked out well for me. I wouldn't recommend the soil I chose though (Levingtons) and I would avoid TT style fans and rather opt for the RVK style ones (also called VK/HVK/AVK/Ruck/In-line Centrifugal Fan). I would also recommend that if you or anyone else chooses to just use HPS lighting that they get a dual-spectrum bulb for vegging as the plants that got dual spectrum for all of vegging turned out much stockier and bushier than the ones under a regular HPS (they stretched). harvest pictures coming up in a min :-)

Ok guys, all of flush 1 is now harvested (3 x Easy Ryder). I'm quite pleased, they were all harvested about 3 days apart starting from roughly the 9 week mark. First was Plant 1, then 3, then 2. Below are assorted pictures of the last two to get the chop. The first pictures shows pretty much all of the bud from them - Plant 2 is on the left three strings and Plant 3 is on the right three I believe. Plant 3 has already been hanging a couple of days.

Plant 3, Central Bud, Semi-Dried:

Plant 2, Cenrral Bud, Fresh:

Bud from Plant 1 (not pictured), when dried was around the 1 1/2 oz mark. Plant 3, fresh weighed in at 7oz so I'm predicting about 2oz dried assuming it will loose 70% of its weight. I'll quickly shove number 2 on the scales in a minute and we'll see what it weighs fresh. Anyone care to hazard a guess (All the bud on the left three stings of the first picture - central bud shown in final picture)?
