I don't think you will have a problem with bushy plants. I top and fim mine before they get to the scrog net to help them bush out and reach the net more evenly.
Here is a pic of a particularly bushy plant I have topped and fimed.

Once you scrog, are you kinda screwed if you wanna check on root growth?

I quickly read through all this. I use rectangle black 8 gallon buckets (similar to cat litter buckets)with 3" net pots. I'm able to fold a portion of the top to open and check roots and change air stones. 4 inside a 4x4 tent with 4 a51 rw150s. 13 gallon res outside tent undercurrent dwc. 2" under flow pipes and 3/4" tube to a 950 gph external danar pump.Haven't done a full run yet just one plant but so far amazing results with these lights. The white pvc in the pic connect to pump and dumps into res.

3 days out from a month of veg, going to flip in probably 2-3 weeks once i fill the scrog

1 day 1 month, moms still looking good.

I started my scrog pretty much right at the beginning of flower cause I have seperate tents for flower and veg. Did training during veg tying down some to shape for the scrog. And I used the plants stretch phase at beginning of flower to level out and scrog the canopy. Worked aweskme.

Been a minute since I updated. Took two out of hydro due to a root issue, long story short tried to clean out everything, refilled water went to turn pump back on and it failed, by the next morning two were pretty sad and I just scrapped them. IVe since flipped to flower, and am just over 2 weeks in. The two left in hydro are way behind the two in soil, but oh well, first grow....
