First grow, need some tips/advice.

so I'm doing my first grow(guerilla) this year. I've ordered ten seeds of sensi's early skunk.

I'm going to be using inthegarden's simple organic soil mix which is basically
1/3 peat
1/3 compost
1/3 perlite.
And amendments

My question is, would I be better off doing 30 gal holes with just soil mix or 60 gal holes 1:1 with native soil? The soils a dark brownish black and seems pretty decent. What kind of yeilds could I expect with 8 hours direct sunlight? I'm in the northern part of southeast US if that counts for anything.

Also, I'm wondering if I'd be better off with 1/2 ewc and1/2 store bought compost or 1/2 ewc and 1/2 rabbit manure? Would the rabbit manure burn my plants? And how long till I would need to start top dressing?

rabbit turds are a cold fert and can be used straight up. I have bunnies and use the lumps to make a tea that I water my girls with once every week. Plus before I plant seed or If putting in a seedling I make sure the spot has lots of fresh bunny bombs mixed in.

Thanks for the reply JC. I seen that it was 2.7%N which made me a little nervous. Thanks for clearing that up! Also I went and dug the holes today and the soil is actually A LOT worse than I had previously thought. I've uploaded some pictures to give you guys an idea. It seems to be mostly clay, could this be an issue even though I'm bringing in my own soil?

Throw some gypsum in to help break up the clay.

Clay base should be ok (is a nutriant bank) if using your own soil. Dig a deep and wide (wide is better) hole. Clay holds moisture so perlite in ur mix would be good. Just be careful of any nutrients as clay holds them and its hard to flush if you need to.

I hear ya, the ground here is adobe broke 2 picks and dozen shovels should have just rented a jack hammer. I busted all of it up( I had help) then the lawn guy donated a 98 gal recycle bin of grass and leafs we have horses and rabbits so lots of horse bombs and bunny poop. 40 bags give or take chicken crap and steer crap from Lowes and mixed that with the native adobe. Now I can poke a stick in it with little effort 2 feet deep.
I throw a few hundred seeds in after harvest every year and the buggers get about ft 1/2 tall and then I just till all them into the soil and I'm good to go for another season.

Yeah I went out yesterday to dig the holes thinking," yeah I'll just dig ten holes in the ground after walking miles into the woods under the scorching sun. Oh, and I'll forget to bring water.." Lmao needless to say I've dug 3 so far. I plan on finishing the other 7 this weekend. Probably at night.

@Lucky Luke so it'd be okay to mix it with my soil? I read somewhere that clay has a wacky ph or something like that. Or are you just saying it'd be okay to put my own soil in the "clay pots"

Soil in ur clay "pots". Once the roots are healthy and strong they will have no problem travelling through the clay and feeding on the nutrients it holds.

I've planted in heavy heavy clay before and have had good results, half lb per plant.

My holes have always been 200 gallons and I use straight aged cow manure mixed with some bio tone starter plus and use happy frog bulb food mixed with epsom salts. No prob pulling off 2-4 pounds a plant.

Hey, I always mix my soil mix with the dirt. Some of my holes don't have any soil mix at all, other than what comes in with the transplant. I use an inverse ratio of soil mix to length of walk packing it in. So for the really long walks, I use time release, as well as bulk farm fertilizers, lime, Epson salts, perlite {amount adjusted according to need} and coffee grounds.

Dig your holes wide, at least 32" across. Deep doesn't matter as much. If your soil has lots of clay, add perlite. At least it is light to pack in.

If using gypsum on clay soil it takes about a year to see results.
