Can it work in the 400w hps ballast?? At least until nex week. Without damaging the ballast? I giv zero fucks if this 175 blows out sometime next week. HELP

Rush order a ViparSpectra 450w for $149. 300w for $99.

Not sure but I doubt it, mercury lamps are a totally different tech besides just the obvious wattage differences.

Wouldn't risk it.

I'm still a beginner but I'm pretty sure you want to get it as close as you can without stressing the plant. Otherwise you're wasting energy.
I don't know what it feels like because it's not aircooled.
My 2 600s are air cooled and they are literally 6 inches from my plants with some colas 2 inches away. About 30 minutes ago I had to tie one cola sideways because it was about 1/8 of an inch from the cool tube. They are looking good.
Not necessarily. I've read plants can only absorb so much light at a time and it's all to due with PAR values and Lumens, not necessarily wattage and how close your lights are. While your lights can provide higher PAR Values and Lumens by being closer to your plant the difference may be negligible if the coverage of the PAR/Lumens is sufficient, regardless of your height.

It's anecdotal but I run a 250W HPS in a 2x2x5 and my plant shows the same growth and vigor whether my light is close to my plant or resting in the top. I'm assuming I've gotten an over powered light for my space so it provides the max amount of light energy regardless of how close it is to my plant in such a tiny space.

The hps fixture i hav is also for mercury lamps cuz the original lamp for the set up is a ceramic metal halide. I tried it and its working so far.

Interesting cuz im experiencing the same thing. Actually, the buds further away from the light got more trichomes and the hairs are maturing faster and getting bigger than the buds closer to the light.

Check @RM3 grows. He uses T5's and even his bus that are well over three feet away from the light still form nice, thick, and frosty.

Don't use a lower wattage bulb in your higher wattage ballast even if it is adjustable.
But i need some kina light til i get a lamp. I dont care if it blows out ill jus buy another one. But the original bulb for fixture wont get to my country til tuesday. I hav a 4.5 x 4.5 scrog net and my plant is into the 5th week of flower. I NEED light NOW. If the bulb is the only thing that wud blow then fuck it. The 175w sells here and its cheap enough. But the 400w cmh i cant get here so i had to order it.

Is there a Home Improvement store near you that sells high-wattage CFLs or T5 lights they will do just fine in a pinch and you won't have to run the risk of blowing your bulb.

If you're in a scrog net then you are in luck because you could just get the equivalent wattage of CFLs for cheap and hang them right above the plant.

makes sure, your plant has the current paper to read, don't get fucking cheap on her.
