First grow room design - advise.

Hey guys

I'm pretty new to the forum and joined because I decided to grow my own now instead of buying. I've been reading for a few days and before I take the plunge into buying materials and I decided to
draw out my planned grow room so I can get advise on improvements etc before I start buying the materials. I have uploaded the very unprofessional design here so if someone can advise further then it would be great.

I'm in the UK so my big worries are the usual, 1. Smell 2. Heat/Thermal 3. Noise

I'm thinking of a grow tent that extracts with carbon filter into the main room, and the main room is also secure and has another carbon filter for the extraction along with ona blocks, I'm hopeful this will get rid of the smell, also for heat I'm thinking about getting a cooler in the main room so the room seems cool and deter any thermal/heat problems while maintaining the required heat in the grow tent. For the noise I was just thinking about acoustic ducting and those larger silent fans.

How does this setup sound? any suggestions for improvements?

I'm really stuck with which lights to go for, I eventually want to start using LEDS but can't afford them now. Should I go for normal lights or the air cooled hooded ones?
Also I'd eventually like to make this more autonomous, like lighting, coolers etc, any suggestions for this?

Finally was thinking of getting some of those pumps that work on a timer, I think there called holiday feeding kits or something, hopefully this reduces my time in grow room as i'm worried about getting caught.

Sorry for the long thread, just want to be thorough and really want to get it right as it's my first grow. Thanks

How many watts are we talking about here also how big is that tent and how big is that room, whats your budget and where in your house is this room located are there walls exposed to the out side of the house, these are important pieces of information.

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply mate

I'm really not sure about the whats, I was looking for the 2m x 2m tent, the room is slightly larger than 3m x 3m. The room is facing my back garden and has 1 wall exposed to the outside, 1 wall is connected to the neighbors house and the others are the hallways within my house. I'm looking at a budget of around £3,000, I'm looking to make a reliable well organised professional setup. I wanted to ask how many plants I could get in the 2m x 2m tent? and also how many lights I'd need depending on this? also any further advise would be excellent,

Thanks again

As far as the amount of plants go you can grow as many as you would like you could grow tons of small ones or a few huge ones its all about geting the best lighting coverage for your canopy and the best turn around time, here is a list of the lighting coverage of different HID's https://www.greenpassion.org/index.php?/topic/353-hid-lighting-coverage/ you can use any combination but i believe that 600 watters are supposed to be the most efficient, also keep in mind that bigger lights need to be father away and smaller bulbs can get closer lots of smaller bulbs also give different angles of light. With a room as small as this i would definitely suggest air cooled hoods and you will definitely need to exhaust to another room, since you are concerned about FLIR the best way to dissipate heat would be to pump the air down into the basement where all of the heat can flow threw the entire house and be evenly distributed and dissipated. FLIR does not give them x ray vision it only allows them to see where there are concentrations of heat leaking from the house if you pump the heat out of the tent into the surrounding room that room will glow because you are heating up all of the air inside that room but if you pump it out directly into the basement the air in the room will remain cooler and so it will not show up on FLIR.

A grow room is any room especially designated for growing plants. A hydroponic grow room is thus a room where the means of cultivation is hydroponics.

Thanks for the advise mate, I really appreciate the help, I may still have a problem because I don't have a basement, just a loft and I know I cant extract to the roof. Is there anyway to cool the hot air that is extracted? like submerging the extraction ducting in water or some kind of cooling system? or is that just a stupid question? sorry i am a newbie and also do you know any good cheap systems for auto-watering the plants?

Thanks again mate

As far as the auto watering thing goes you can turn any grow room into an auto watered grow room, all though some methods of growing are easier to use it with, auto watering with soil can be as simple as getting a big ass barrel filling it with water and then putting a pump on a timer every 3-4 days it runs for x amount of minutes to water your plants but in a system like this you of course have to make sure that you don't flood your grow room, other systems like recirculating DWC systems constantly circulate the water threw a series of buckets where the roots are constantly submerged in water. As far as the water cooling idea goes no it is not a dumb idea but i believe it is an expensive one and i don't know much about it, there is a thread some where on here that explains pretty much every thing you need to know but i wasn't able to find it, its in the sticky's some where here on rollitup.org

Here is a brief explanation

Over all man you are asking some pretty basic questions, i have been reading about growing for probably 10 + years and had never had a place to do it, but i just got a chance to complete my first grow and i still had some problems, don't expect to just throw money at the problem to fix it, also you might want to consider going with a small grow to learn the craft, starting out with a massive grow is probably a bad idea...

Hey bud,

Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it, I'm still learning and I'm going to give the threads and links a good read now. Thanks again mate

high man, you should google 'hempy', KISS and 'vertical' to get an idea how to setup a simple, safe and productive grow.

...i read your first post and your basic ideas are sound but over-complicated, as a new student of the hobby you would be better served by going in as simple a direction as possible until you gain some actual experience, ...growing isn't hard but it IS a skill set and it takes ALL new growers a little time and at least a grow or two to begin getting a handle on things, ...which is why i suggest you research hempy-buckets as a method, a style, of growing, which is passive hydroponics btw, and KISS which is a simple 1 part feeding regimen usually using just MaxiBloom as your only nutrient, the only additive you use is a silica product, either Silica Blast or Protekt, which helps to balance the ph of your nutrient solution AND it promotes stronger, healthier plants. (you could also research 'Lucas formula' where you will gain much knowledge on how to feed your plants, what they need and in what amounts.

as for your exhaust issues, i live on the other side of the pond so i don't know UK law but here in the US use of FLIR is limited, ...frankly, the technology is limited and with a working knowledge of the operating parameters of the technology you will see it is no problem to circumvent, ...for example, venting out into the main body of your house spreads the heat through the house as it equalizes itself which eliminates the heat signature and also helps heat your house.

bozo

btw, you don't mention what your goals are as far as growing is concerned, ie, are you growing for headstash or are you looking to supplement your income? ...this is important information for those of us who might try and help guide you in a direction, knowing where you want to go will make it a LOT easier to not lead you astray.
