First Grow

So we ordered 10 seeds of big black indica feminized from the internet. It came with 20 free seeds of assorted seeds, so cool. These came in the mail yesterday, so me and my fiance go to the grow store. We get there and are horrified to learn that we would need to spend like 500 bucks for a hydro setup for 4 buckets and a pump bucket or whatever. So we decide to just get a light and grow in soil.

So we bought a 400 W HPS bulb, a ballast for it, and a reflector.

We're going to set up the light in this spot between the refrigerator and the counter. Once these seeds pop out of the shell (probly tonight) gonna plant them in this burpee seed starter dome thing, and set up the light over it.

Will update for progress, anyone have any questions or comments? This is our first grow so any advice is welcome.

Remember that the HPS is going to offput a lot of heat in a small spot, so, your babies are going to stretch if you only have that 400. I would suggest getting a couple 100 watt Equiv CFLs and keepin them 1-3 inches above the plant at all times with that HPS above it all. If your plants aren't getting enough "lumens" they will stretch to find more!

Thanks, I'll look into that. I didn't get any sprouts yesterday, but we did today, 1 of the 3 feminized ones i put on a paper towel, and one of them is cracked so hopefully by tomorrow morning it will sprout. Another sprout on one of the 5 'free' seeds we got sent. Going to plant the two sprouts tomorrow morning, let them germinate a little longer, and hopefully some more will have popped out of their shells in the morning too.

Okay to update I just planted four of the sprouts in the seed starting dome that with some kind of pellets that i put water on and it turned into soil. Put the dome back on it and put it under the light in the closet. I still have some more seeds germing under the sink, it gets hot under there for some reason. My question is, how close should the light be to the dome? I have it pretty close.

Peace.

Just soil and water? I know nutes and the right equipment can be pricey, but you're really limiting your grow by not using a little of what science has to offer.

And you're limiting the true potential of your grow.

Of course, if you're not sure you enjoy growing, this might not matter just yet. I went full boar with the Advanced Nutrients goodies and never looked back.

But hey, i wish the best to you...

No, once I transplant into bigger pots I plan on giving them nutrients. Just not yet, I'm still waiting for them to pop out of the soil, I just planted four about 2 hours ago. Once I get to that stage I'll tell ya'll what I'm giving them, and I'm going to buy a digital camera so I can document the progress and get advice.

Yes sir she is! We think about 2 more weeks for this one and a week or two longer for the other two. Anyways, we need to get a magnifying glass soon. I'll probably post more pics tomorrow of the other two.

I like! what nutes did you use?
Hey thanks! Used Roots Organics Buddha Grow and Buddha Bloom. I also mixed some iron-zinc in the one in the last pictures a couple times because it's leaves were yellowing more than I liked and it helped. I was pretty happy with the nutes I used but gonna try maybe something else next time to get bigger buds. It may not be the nutes, though...

Any suggestions?

Peace
