First Grow

Hi everyone,

I am new on this forum and I want to thank everyone, I did learn a lot by reading posts here.

I recently started my very first indoor grow, I struggle a bit to control the RH as well as the temperature. The RH is high but acceptable when the light is on (70-75%), but really high (95%) when the light shuts down. The temperature is also a bit too high (35C).

Happily it's only the third day of growth, so I hope it didn't do too much damage so far. I just improved the extraction system, so I will track how it goes today.

There are some details:
Strain: white skunk (fem)
Light: currently 18/6 (CFL 200w dual spectrum - 73L/W)
I have a fan running non-stop during light time as plugged into the same timer as the bulb. Same goes for the humidifier.
Tent: small bay6
Watering: so far only water (ph 5.8/5.9)

I attached a photo (took this morning, after 2 days in the pot).

I have few questions so far:
1. I've read than when a plant is looking for light, it tends to grow "long", is that the case here? The bulb is something like 10 inches from the plant.
2. I use Canna coco in the pot, when do you reckon I should start using my Canna A+B? So far I only gave water.
3. Any feedback/suggestions?

I appreciate it can be too early to give any kind of feedback but I was wondering.

Thanks

1. That's what seeds look like it's not stretching.
2. I wouldn't use nutes till it looks like it needs it/ has a better root system.
3. Be patient. Let it dry out so the roots shoot out looking for water and nutes.

keep light on her... also you said you're running a humidifier?? you dont need that. If anything you want to keep the humidity low. Granted in the initial stages higher humidity is fine. But keep it under %70... veg you want %50 and flower is said to be best at %25-35

I feel ya bro. I had same problems when it came to heat and humidity. When i switched from small led grow strip to just 1 600 watt hps the temp rocketed to 34 degrees plus. Every solution came with another problem. After a great deal of trial and error i cracked it, i hooked up an AC unit outside the tent ducted it into the tent with a 6 inch fan down the line to boost the flow but with that came the problem of very low humidity because it was only pure 15 degrees air going in i solved this by dragging more of the ducting into the tent n sort of wrapping it round the base of my plant pots the cold air running through it meeting the hot temps inside caused condensation on the pipe within the tent bringing humidity back up with it im now managing 2 600 watt hps with temps sitting around 26-28 degrees and rh around 40-50 percent im still hoping to pull off 3x600watt hps for flower n when i do flip ill pull out the extra ducting from in the tent to bring humidity down to 20-30. Keep up the good work bro.

Put your hand near the bulbs and test the heat coming off it...if your hand isn't getting hot, then I'd move those cfls closer...also that's a gigantic pot for a baby IMO so you may see some lag time in growth...take it easy with the fan at this young age also...g/l

Hi there,

Thanks for your replies.

I did it as there were almost no heat closer to the bulb.

Unfortunately, I had to go away for few days for work. And the plant is in a bad state (as you can see on the picture attached).

Do you think it could be the lack of water (approx. 4 days without water, I know, it's terrible, but it's pretty difficult to find a solution on such a short notice when you have to leave...), or could it be "too much" light (if there is such a thing with a CFL bulb)?

I hope it's not too late :/

Thanks guys!

Have you fed it yet?
I do not grow in canna coco. I'm sure it needs to be fed nutes. In soil you can go a while with water only. I don't think you can do that with your medium. I think you will have some drainage issues not having perlite in the mix.
I like how flat the leaves are, not drooping, that is good.
Looks hungry for N and probably other nutes to me. Good Luck!
