I started out with 8 germinated seeds that I planted in jiffy pots and put under 2 flourescents. The idea was to veg them for a month and switch over to a bigger grow room with a 400w hps light and put them in bigger pots. Due to some delays it has now been a month and the switch hasnt happend. Hopefully within 1 week it will be possible I am going to post pictures week by week to show the progress.

Ive hit some problems this week few bottom leaves are turning yellow and curling upwards along with a few curling downwards. I've pruned a few but there there are quite a few. From what Ive read it seems to be due to lack of nutrients. I mixed 1tsp/gallon of epson salt and have been watering the past two days. I need to switch to bigger pots but I wont have that option for another week or so. I am hoping they will still stay healthy during this period.

ok, NOW it's time for HID. i mean, they'll be okay under those, but now is where you see a huge advantage with HID.

Yea I've been planning on switching them at exactly week 4 but due to ordering lights and other delays its taking longer. The 400 w hps should be on its way and I am hoping for it to be here by a week but I am worried about the condition of the plants over the week since they seem to be starting to struggle right now. Any advice?

it's not that big of a deal to drop lower leaves. unless you have them spread out, they're going to drop anyway, especially with SOG. don't worry

Okay so I finally moved the plants and put them in bigger pots with Foxfarm Ocean Forest soil. The improvement with actual good quality soil is very noticable, they were struggling now I am getting dark green healthy looking leaves. 400W HPS will be here a day before the 6 week of vegging. I would have liked to run it awhile for vegging but I am going to switch to flowering once the light gets here.

Okay so reppotted, emergency blanketed sides, 400 w hps all is going good. Going to need to work on a ventalation system, the bulb gets HOT! complete light setup from htgsupply.com for $150 thanks guys. i am not going all out on this i realize you can spend hundreds if not thousands but this being the first time i wanted to do everything on a cheap budget. total expenses = $215. Now the waiting game. I was planning on starting flowering but should i veg them for a few more days since i ve finally got a good light?

so ive had the new system in for almost an hour and the temps are already up to 86 degress F. i know 95 degress plants will die, i dont have any ventalation yet but any recommendations on cheap ventalation solutions, i am not going to pay $120 for an inline fan...

you can get 4" can fans and ducting on the cheap at home depot.

i would get your venting sorted out and give those girls a little chance to grow before flowering, as long as you have enough vertical room.

yo ceestyle i was thinking about something at homedepot. i have this exhuast tube that goes outside. its 8" in diameter if i go to homedepot what section would i look in for those fans and the actual name of them? heres the picture of what i have to work with

no its a cheap open air, i really didnt think the 400 w would put off so much heat, but ill pick up that fan and mabey run some ducting to the ceiling to grab the hot air

yeah, you might be able to hook up a 4" tubing to sit loosely around the light socket, being careful to shield those electrical connections from any short. you can then get an 8" to 4" reducer and you'll be seriously sucking all that bulb's heat out.

i assume the ballast is outside your growbox?

no the ballast is inside the grow room but its away from everything on the concrete floor its heat hasnt become a big issue yet. i just got back from homedepot and i checked to see if the fan was available online beforehand but when i get there they dont have shit and either does lowes, now i gotta figure something out in the meantime........ like leaving my grow door open for the world to see.

*another question does this in-line duct fan come with a reg ac plug? or do you have to wire it? i am hoping i can just plug it into my surge protector? i am going to drive the next town over tommorow there supposed to have it.

yeah you can just plug it straight in the wall.

first thing: get the damned ballast out of the box ! it sitting in the closed room contributes as much or more heat than the light.
