First marijuana growing question

Throw an open sandwich bag over your new seedlings for the first week or so. Keeps them humid and happy! That's one issue.

Yep, MJ is a C3 plant, which means, as long as the lights are on, it will photosythesize and grow...BUT..when you turn light out for a couple hours it does help develop stronger roots and new shoots, not too mention when I put my girls in dark for 24 hours before harvest, the buds seem to explode with growth...so blowincherrypie, while you are right to an extent, we are here to help one another, not play king of the sandbox, so chill smoke and be happy, cuz it's always a preference for lighting schedules...I use 24/0 for first 4 weeks, then switch to 18/6 for another 4 weeks of veg, then of course 12/12 for flower...but it's still just preference...and Budsworth.. The answer to your question is mother nature, unless you live in antartica you will have dark at night time for at least 6 hours in summer...
Well Rik while you are right to an extent, you're also wrong. My statement is 100% right, not "to an extent." Plants don't need rest, they don't need dark and it has been proven that a plant vegged under 24 hr light will have more growth. This is not an opinion that I have, they are facts. Since weed is a C3 plant, it DOES NOT process C02 in the dark. I'm not saying the plants don't grow during dark hours, but the dude was stating the plants NEEDED REST and 24 hour light wasn't good. Why don't you help the person who's passing off half truth as the gospel and get off my nuts. Also, FYI the more recent info is that roots DO NOT grow any faster in the dark.

I have vegged my strain under 18 hours of light, and under 24 hours of light. Clones taken the same day, taken with the same method from the same mother plant and vegged under a 65 watt cfl for 18 hours a day grew less than my plants under 24 hour light. I only kept them in separate containers for 2 weeks until I combined the two lights into one box and now only veg 24 hours. The only reason I would see to give the plants dark time is to prepare them for flowering or to save electricity.

There is this common formula that people use for "growth" and "yield.
1000 watts of light = 1000 grams of wet weight; THIS NEEDS TO STOP. The true measure should be KILO WATT HOURS. How many hours of 1000 watt light did that plant receive, this removes our "How long did you veg them" factor. If we just measure the KW/H we put into our grow room we should be able to come up with a decent equation for "good growth" and "good development."

Just my 2 cents on the subject, since we're ranting!!

Well like I said, I'm not here to play king of the sand box, so you can believe what you want, it's a free country (well it used to be)...and as far as the person passing half truths, that was his opinion, and lack of knowledge...I'm sure if he read the rest of this thread, he's still just as confused as you are. So quit trying to be the "grow god" and get off your own nuts bro...cuz I put 1 baby in 24/0 and 1 baby in 18/6 and the 1 in 18/6 looks way better than the 1 in 24/0 by a node at least....so don't just read what someone else says, try it on your own and see, before you open your mouth to exchange your feet next time....

Well I have personally seen test grows using clones being vegged under 3 different light schedules, 18-6, 20-4, 24-0.

24-0 had, BY FAR, the worst total yield.
20-4 had the BEST total yield.
18-6 was in the middle.

About as factual as it gets right there.

If someone were to say a plant would be bigger/have a higher yield under 24/0 veg in any situation is a fucking idiot. Same goes for people who say "OMG 18/6 is da bestest y0".. It's what works best for YOU. With that said, no cannabis doesn't need rest in veg. It's fucking science. But does that mean everyone should do it and if you don't you're a retard? No..

I really couldn't care less what people choose to veg their plants under. That's everyone's choice. Don't go around stating your personal experience as fact of life. Your whore girlfriend may have been the slut of the century. That doesn't mean all women are. Just like that, no two cannabis plants are the same.

The fucking end.

*No, this post isn't directed at anyone so don't get butthurt.

It does appear that our first time poster (Sohighsofine) is a bit intimidated to reply...... and he does continue to log into RIU but is hiding in the bushes.....I don't blame him.

Sohighsofine.....I would suggest that you start a new thread, assuming you still have the desire to participate in our forum.

cheers
