I'm starting this grow journal about 5 1/2 weeks from germination. The plants have been under a 400w T5 for the duration. Unfortunately, they have taken some hits these past few weeks, but the flower room is finally finished and I'll get some photos up soon.

thanks to someguy15 for the following template:

Strain: x5 Vanilla Kush x1 Super Lemon Haze

Medium: Feminized seeds germinated in FF Light Warrior. Transferred into 2 gal. pots 45% FFOF/ 45% Sunshine #4 Mix/ 10% Perlite. Repotted into 5 gal. 90% Sunshine #4 Mix/ 10% Perlite.
Growing style: Handwater
Methods: Topping, LST

Base Water: City Tap Water, <85ppm, 6.8ph
Nutes: Dyna Gro Foliage Pro, Dyna Gro Grow, Dyna Gro Bloom, Dyna Gro Protekt
Additives: H&G Root Stimulator, H&G Drip Clean, AzaMax
ph: 6.0-6.5ph

Feeding schedule: As needed depending on pot weight. Mix of Dyna
Gro to be discussed later.

Lights: 4' T5 Ballast w/ 8 bulbs (40,000 Lumens) used for seedlings and veg.; x2 600w ballasts w/ x2 MH conversion bulbs (100,000 lumens; 390 PAR) and x2 hornilux HPS (176,000 lumens) for flowering.

Light Schedule: Seedling 20/4; Vegging 18/6; Flowering 12/12
Temps: 79-82 degrees F during day; 63-67 degrees F during night
Humidity: 80% Seedling; 60-70% Veg.; 40-50% Flowering
Circulation: 4" inline 176 CFM
Odor Control: Might add carbon filter later
Size of grow rooms: 5' x5' attic space; Flower Room 3.25' x 6' x 8'H (156 cubic feet and then some)
How long Veg'd: 7 weeks or 18" (which ever first)

They were started in red dixie cups and then then transplanted in the ffof/ sunshine #4 soil mixture. This was a bad idea as ph and lockout problems occurred, which caused significantly slower growth. Here is a link to my cry for help:

https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-pl...need-help.html

Thanks in advance to all those who read and help with this thread.

Hey,

Here are some picture of the new flower room.

DSC00851.jpg

Those are x2 600w MH conversion bulbs. They put off about 50,000 lumens per bulb and 195 PAR each.

DSC00852.jpg

They are about 11-13" tall. The front most one on the left is the only Vanilla Kush that is not going to be LST. The main stem snapped down the middle enough to make it impossible to LST, but not enough to halt development.

DSC00854.jpg

The plants were just repotted into 5 gal. containers. They spent the first 5 1/2 weeks from germination under a 4' 400w T5 ballast. Hopefully it will be a forest in there.

DSC00855.jpg

They are currently at 17-19" from the MH bulbs. When we moved them downstairs under these HID lights the smell got much more intense. A carbon filter may be in our future.

DSC00857.jpg

All plants were topped between the 2nd and 3rd true nodes after they had developed 5-6 true nodes. As you can see the 2nd node has grown more then the 1st. With some more LST we will make a more even canopy.

DSC00859.jpg

This VK has the best genetics out the ten seeds that were started. It has out performed the others in every aspects of growing so far. A clone was taken 3 weeks ago and has begun to root. If she yields well at harvest the clone will become a mother for future grows.

DSC00860.jpg

This is the Super Lemon Haze. She is going to get really tied back into a swastika b/c the stretch on her should be about 300% while the flower stretch on the VK should only be 100-140%.

DSC00864.jpg

These VK are squat plants with internodal spacing of only about an inch during veg. Below i'll post some information about both the strains.

http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Vanilla_Kush/Barneys_Farm/

http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Super_Lemon_Haze/Green_House_Seeds/

It is going to be a wild ride.

Thanks for the rep and welcome to my journal. Can't wait to flip them. Just have to solve a few problems before HPS bulbs are inserted and 12/12 begins.

The closet is having some heating issues. Did a dry run on both lights for 48 hours and and the temps maxed out at 78 degrees F. However, did not account for plants and soil which seem to be retaining heat. Max temps are now 82-83 after 10 hours on. Just opening the doors for now and temps fall to 74 degrees.

Using passive intake right now, but heading to home depot to buy a fan that can circulate air at about 40-50 cfm to hook up to the intake. Hopefully this will solve any heat issues.

FIRST WATERING IN FLOWER ROOM

Let me tell ya about the nutrient regime these girls are on. First off, all fertilizers are Dyna Gro brand and have been from the start. Weed is a plant that does not need cannabis specific nutrients, I can't stress this enough. It need nutrients in the right ration for mj and this can be obtained with regular fertilizer.

After 3 weeks the plants started getting 1/4tsp: 1 gallon dose of foliage-pro and pro-tekt. They are now getting 3/4tsp: 1 gallon (foliage-pro) and 1/2tsp: 1 gallon (pro-tekt). They also receive 1/4tsp: 1 gallon H&G roots excel and .4ml: 1 gallon H&G drip clean. The plants are watered with nutrients every time and flushed once a month.

DSC00866.jpg

Dyna-Gro is a great brand of fertilizers, I can't stress this enough. It is not weed specific, but the right nutrient regime can be attained using it. From what I've read a 3-1-2 NPK ration is perfect for vegetative growth. What do you know, the foliage-pro has that exact ratio. The Grow formula will be used to transition the plants off of nitrogen and onto phosphorus. However, I'm an advocate of higher nitrogen during bloom and only giving lower nitrogen the last 3 weeks of flowering. There will be no yellowing of fan leaves in this grow journal.

DSC00867.jpg

Pro-Tekt is a great product and one of the reasons I'm a firm advocate of Dyna-Gro. It is derived from potassium silicate and contains a minimum of 7.8% silicon. Silicon, in my opinion is similar to Ca and Mg in that it is a micro-nutrient that needs to be applied in liberal amounts. Silicon is used by plants to strengthen cell walls and since applying the pro-tekt the stems are becoming enormous. Hopefully, the plants will not have to be staked and can hold there 4 colas up with pride. Also, plants will high amounts of silicon are more resistant to bugs and disease b/c there leaves are thicker. It is much harder for a fledgling bug to chew through plant material that has thicker cell walls.

DSC00869.jpg

Cal-Mag to supplement mainly nitrogen in last 3 weeks of flower.

DSC00870.jpg

Here are all other additives. The H&G roots excelurator seems to be working well coupled with the granular mycorrhiza. I don't know if the H&G drip clean is all together necessary as the plants are being flushed every month and the nutrient regime is rather low right now. The H&G products are really expensive, but i think they will last more than 2 grows, so I'll reevaluate if they are completely necessary later and find some suitable replacements. And as you can see, there is enough ph down there to last untill mj is totally decriminalized.

DSC00871.jpg

This product is simply amazing and may not be available to most who are not in a greenhouse/ nursery mecca like myself. If you can find similar products that have all 3 mycorrhiza soil inoculants then i advise you buy it. I've been unable to find any cheap water soluble versions for hydro growers. I think there is a rather expensive one called "great white," which is available at grow stores. Here is the fungus wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycorrhiza

I do not have an EC or PPM meter, but I can ballpark the amount going into the soil just from what is in the formulas I'm giving them. 1tsp foliage pro has about 325-400ppm in it. 1 tsp pro-tekt has about 70-110 ppm. At maximum nutrient levels the plants will not get more than 1100-1300 ppm and will only receive this much during the flowering stretch. At this moment, even with what is in the tap water (tap water<100ppm) the plants can't be getting more than 500ppm nutrients. There is not much calcium in our tap water so the EC is not high. Next grow I'll buy an EC meter, but it is not necessary the first time around.

Think that covers everything for right now. Until next time.

After having read over several hundred hours of botany book, articles and mj specific posts I've come to realize that the best way to answer cries for helps in these forums is to teach a man/woman how to grow rather than tell a man/women how to grow. They are the same questions over and over again. All in all, today has been a fruitful sick day, but i can't help but think the 4 hours of my time spent surfing the internet was a total waste of time.

It seems that after all the info I have posted that I reach (on average) one new grower a week, in terms of actually taking the time to read and understand what I am trying to teach, so I say keep on keepin on cause when you get one it's worth it in my eyes if my ramblings help one plant thrive I have reached my goal

Thank you and welcome to the grow. Looked at your journal and it got me thinking about documenting my genetics easter egg hunt. keep up the good work.

A couple of things are going to go down in the next 3 days. Firstly, i bought a new 6" can-fan that cycles air at 440 cfm (overkill I know), which needs to be installed so I'll post some pics of what the room layout looks like. Second, end of week 6 update should be up in 2 days. Third after being in the room for about 6 days the plants have grown an amazing 5-7" and they are going to be turned in less than 1 week. So a lot to look forward to.

hey there mm, nice grow you got going. i am subbed. +rep.
Thank you and welcome, welcome, welcome. Glad your going to give me some input. Just have to say, I learned a lot from reading your two journals and the abundance of posts you leave on lacey's journal.

Hey, your research nuggets reached me. They really made me think and sent me in whole other exploratory Internet path. Thanks.

Until next time,

Howdy,

The new can-fan is installed and temp is down to a cool 78 degrees with it only running at about 75%. It will definitely be able to cool the closet. i was thinking of a way to vent the hoods, but I like the light footprint i have now. It looks like it will not be necessary to turn the lights 90 degrees, which means there will be room for a 8" x 24" carbon filter later on down the line. Anyway, here are some pics of the closet so you can get a better idea of the setup.

DSC00874.jpg

This is a shelf off to the left of the doors. It comes in handy and could be removed to provide an extra 20" of room. I don't know how to flip the pictures on this forum if someone could walk me through it.

DSC00875.jpg

This is the smaller 4" inline fan. It vents into a crawl space adjacent to the basement. It can circulate about 170 cfm, which is about how much air the closet contains.

DSC00876.jpg

And here is the monster 440 cfm can-fan. It vents outside because I want the basement air to stay a cool 62-64 degrees. Didn't think these lights could up the ambient temperature of the basement so much.

DSC00877.jpg

It actually produces less noise than the other inline fan even though it cycles 3 time as much air. 6" ducting is much better than 4" ducting hands down.

DSC00878.jpg

This is a speedster. It is set at the lower end of High output. I bet it has the fan blowing about 250-325 cfm.

It's time to water again tomorrow. The plants are consuming 10 gallons every 3 days. Now that temps are down 5 degrees hopefully they won't loose as much to evaporation. What kind of mulch does anyone use on there indoor plants?

until next time,

mm

I wish you good luck on that VK from Barney's..
Barney's 2010 feminized seeds tend to become hermies..
I just had 4 outta 5 Barney's Blue Cheese fem. go hermie on me.. I'm boycotting them for life..
And I can only give a fellow grower some advice, and be careful with Barney's.. you might end up getting hermies..
Don't veg too long cause it could be a big waste of time.
I'm not sure if the Vanilla Kush is also underbred, but the BC, Red Dragon, Red Cherry Berry, those 3 definitely will hermie.

The VK might be underbred just judging from its short time on the market. Don't know if it is or isn't underbred. Basically, I bought the VK because of it's performance in the high times CC. Didn't do a ton of research and can't find a great place to get breeder and strain reviews. Does anyone know of some stellar strain review pages? Right now I use 1) http://www.seedbankupdate.com/su.html and 2) http://en.seedfinder.eu/ .

As of right now, they are showing female preflowers, but they just really began to show less than a week ago. I'll keep a watchful eye for some balls in case they start teabagging my sleeping giants.

Hi all,

Yesterday was yet another feeding. The plants are consuming about 2 gallons of liquid (each) every 3 days. Since the nutrient update, they have been watered twice. In the first watering, the foliage pro was increased to 3/4tsp: gallon. For the second watering, the base nutrient has been changed from dyna-gro foliage-pro(9-3-6) to dyna-gro liquid grow(7-9-5). The plants have been going for almost 7 weeks and will be flipped into flower this week. The higher phosphorus will hopefully prepare them. Also, the amount of liquid grow has been increased to 1tsp: gallon. Also, next watering the liquid grow will further increased to 1.5-2tsp: gallon and the pro-tekt will be increased to 1tsp: gallon for the duration of the stretch (rooting hormones will be discontinued). After the stretch they will be gradually transitioned into the bloom formula.

Look forward to some pictures of the girls posted in the week 6 post tomorrow.

HOW DO I EDIT MY PREVIOUS POSTS??? IT NO LONGER GIVES ME THE OPTION.
