First Organic grow

Hi All,

I've read a fair bit into organic growing but i've never had a go at making my own soil..

I am unable to get every part of coots mix to completely copy it however Ive tried to get it as close as possible...

The ingredients I want to use are:

1/4 Perlite as Aeration,
1/4 Peat Moss as a medium
1/4 EWC
1/4 organic compost

Ammendments:
35% Canola Meal
15% Bone Meal
14% Gypsum
6% pottasium Sulphate
0.75% Bull Kelp
0.75% munash rock dust
0.5% humate granules

Trace Elements:
Calcium, Zinc, Manganese, Copper, Boron

(NPK 2.7:2:3)

Kelp meal and Oystershell flower for top dressing later.

I have everything ready to mix up and lightly mist with water and let it cook for 30 days, should that be enough time for those that have more experience than me comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

(I have 4 Purple bud seedlings germinated with another 5 seeds germinating at the moment).

Cheers!

I'm no expert, just heard that you shouldn't go over 20% with fresh castings, but since you're bagged it's no issue.
Just started using castings myself.

I'm a little concerned about your potassium sulfate, though. Seems like it'd wash out rather quickly, but I've never used it to know (at least in a powder)

Also, I'd throw the oyster shell shell flour in to start with....
What do you mean by your percentages in the amendments?

Thanks I have ended up mixing a little less as suggested:

50L Peat
15L bagged organic Castings
15L Organic Compost
25L Perlite
5L Charcol
1 Cup of Kelp meal
(I didnt have time to prepare oyster shell flour unfortunately ** may mix it in when i turn the soil over next week)

And 1.5L "C.O.F" Complete organic fertlizer because i couldnt source some ingredients used for the more well known super soils at my location. The percentages is what comes on the package and it suggest 1.5L worth of for the amount of soil I wanted to make, Just hoping it is within the ball park 90ml worth of Pottasium Sul. I was concerned about it being 6% too, Ill top up If I have to.

Thanks for comments again are you growing organic at the moment?

If the potassium sulfate is part of a package, I'm sure it's probably fine. Just cut that oyster shell in as soon as you can...

I do grow organic, but I use guanos, so it's a little different than what I do.

I would go 40 to 50l of perlite and the oyster shell flour is a must, your gonna need something to lime the peat with.
Thanks for your Input Chris, I might add some more perlite to the mix when I use the soil, I actually missed a few ingredients in the Fertilizer mix I am using, it contains also 14% Ag Lime and 14% Guano's. Do you think that amount of lime would be enough to balance the acidity of the peat? I will add The oyster shell in also but i was just wondering if I can over-do the Calcium side of things.

Cheers

I'm not sure, most recommend 1 cup per cubic foot of soil of ag lime or oyster shell flour. If you could calculate that from the percentage you could find out. Or wait a few weeks and check soil ph.

Thanks I think I will need to add another cup of ag lime and Oyster shell to get it to about that standard, Ill check the ph at the end of the cook just so i havent messed up anything. Cheers Chris

Hopefully, I am able to help here from what I have read the website "Agaar" he has a percentage and what to use in an organic super soil from subcools recipe to use by a ratio so you can do it by percentage of the ingredients vs making huge volumes of it. So far for me so good, I dropped my little 14-day old seedlings into a 15 gallon grow pot. I am sure on rollitup org there are plenty of people who can tell you better then I can.

They've bounced back really well i feel. Ive incoperated Blumats to control the watering as they are still very young plants and dont want to stress them anymore than i have already,
